    More Lost Toronto in colour

    Wow...

    More Lost Toronto in colour

    I think it's actually a Ford Tempo...same vintage though.

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

AFAIK, a few years ago they decided to more or less give up the storefront retail scene to Office/Business Depot and concentrate on direct sales to businesses instead.

Standard vs TTC gauge; An LRT Standard in Ontario?

Ottawa is not considering TTC gauge at all.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Ottawa, and I suspect other cities looking at LRT are also probably watching closely as the vehicle the TTC selects (at least for the Transit City lines) could potentially become the defacto standard LRT vehicle in Ontario...especially if a joint purchasing program is explored.

    Army tanks in Toronto?

You should have been paying closer attention 'Beez, there is a Valentine at the War Museum...it was recovered from a Ukranian or Polish swamp and repatriated to Canada. :)

    Davisville Yard Planning Study

That is exactly what the goal of the planning study is. AFAIK, there are no plans to place buildings over the tracks due to costs, etc.

    Davisville Yard Planning Study

There is meant to be a Davisville Yard planning study going on, but the City's website hasn't been updated in over a year so I've no clue what the status is. It's not so simple as declaring the yard surplus, the TTC has declared it to be operationally important (trains stored here serve the...

Push to allow motorcycles in HOV lanes

The story goes that his son is an avid motorcyclist...this is the same Councillor who led the (successful) charge to let motorcycles parking for free at metered parking spaces...

The Coming Collapse of Canada's Municipal Infrastructure

I take these kinds of reports with a grain of salt as they are typically written by those looking for job security...you'll never hear an engineer tell you that you don't need an expensive infrastructure fix when one can be built.

    Signed up for downspout disconnection

Depending on where you live you can have one of two different sewer systems 1) Combined - sanitary (household) and storm (runoff) run into one big pipe. 2) Separated - different sets of pipes for sanitary and storm systems. Typically, the City is most concerned with disconnecting...

    Toronto LTD Condos | ?m | 15s | Malibu Investments | RAW Design

Yes, this is the site directly north of Malibu 1. Not sure of the status of the Loblaws these days...they weren't very happy with the access restrictions the city was imposing due to construction of dedicated streetcar lanes on Bathurst.

Toronto Panorama at Concord CityPlace | 96.01m | 28s | Concord Adex | BDP Quadrangle

It will be a landscaped median, but there probably won't be trees. Just like they didn't want to have to go through the hell of trying to remove a lane of traffic, the TTC didn't want to go through the hell of trying to remove what will probably be mature trees if/when a streetcar line is ever...

Toronto Panorama at Concord CityPlace | 96.01m | 28s | Concord Adex | BDP Quadrangle

The heritage truss portion of the Bathurst bridge won't be touched - that was rehabbed about 10 years ago. It is the structures south of that which will be rebuilt. Odd that they've poured concrete curbs right up to Bathurst Street when the grade needs to be changed at that location...IIRC...

CP North Toronto Station Restaurant (Woodcliffe, 2s, Taylor Smyth) DEAD

Not really...the north wall (facing the tracks) would be left completely blank and form part of the required crash barrier. Would have been cool to have windows there though...anyone else remember dining at the Leaside Village Station restaurant? This is somewhat old news, no? It was first...

Do EcoEnergy Audit result in property tax increases?

MPAC = Municipal Property Assessment Corporation. It's the company the province set up to handle property assessments across the whole province. Re-assessments are currently on-hold. Sorry, I read your post as stating you definitely needed building permits. I would think you would need...

Do EcoEnergy Audit result in property tax increases?

I don't think the two are linked. Seeing as you need building permits from the City for your renos they would find out anyway. MPAC, not the City, does the assessments - though I suppose they would have access to City records to do so.

    Toronto OnePark West | ?m | 13s | Daniels | Core Architects

It's my understanding that the complete revitalization project will take about 15 years to complete...so it looks like you're out of luck.

    Back of the line, buddy.

John Street Roundhouse: Toronto Railway Heritage Centre, Steam Whistle, The Rec Room

They're not the first guys to come along though...no one has been able to do anything with the roundhouse for a number of years now - the rail museum didn't happen (for various reasons), the TV studio thing didn't work out, and so the darn thing has been sitting empty, quietly rotting away. I...
