November 2020 US Election

I don't think she speaks French. She had to switch to an English high school in Montreal.

From link.

...Asked via email how her Westmount years influenced her, Harris expressed no particular fondness for Montreal, Quebec or Canada.

While my sister Maya and I made great friends and even learned some French, we were happy to return home to California,” she said through a spokesperson.

She did add: “One of the women’s auxiliary groups at the hospital my mother worked at ended up inspiring me to help create an auxiliary group at the Highland Hospital in Oakland later in life.”...

You might not want to live in California. But plenty of people (particularly the well educated and the wealthy) do. Having their lower middle class get displaced is a normal part of gentrification.

Conservatives arguing this is some huge failure is absurd. You won't see them arguing against neighbourhoods gentrifying with wealthy residents or countries that restrict themselves only to migration. I don't see anybody arguing that Rosedale in Toronto is a failed neighbourhood or that Switzerland is a failed state.

Moreover, California is going out of its way to make huge swaths of the state attractive to developers. That is what their High Speed Rail project (opposed by the Trump administration) was about. Enabling business and residents to spread into the interior instead of concentrating on the coasts.
But as I pointed out the state is pushing out a lot of people as well.

So unless you are well educated or well off other USA states are likely better places to live.

HEre is a good video showing how the poor are shafted in the booming California. Many of these live the lifestyle but they suffer health issues and something and the sky high cost of living kicks them hard.

I think that is why I prefer Ontario over California.

Same old Trump antics:

Trump stokes 'birther' theory about Kamala Harris

President Donald Trump says he has heard Democratic running mate Kamala Harris "doesn't qualify" to serve as US vice-president, amplifying a fringe legal theory critics decry as racist.

Meanwhile, Ted Cruz was born in Calgary and John McCain was born in Panama (though to be fair, McCain was born in the then-American-controlled Panama Canal Zone).

Oh, and Republican President Chester A. Arthur was rumoured to be born in Canada, though official documents state that he was born in Vermont.

Meanwhile, in Canada, Andrew Scheer was born in the United States.

Birthers are selective.

Canada does not require either its head of government (PM) or head of state (Queen) to be Canadian-born.

This got me thinking.......

I wonder what other countries have by way of requirements.

Many do indeed require than their Presidents be native-born.

This is the case in Estonia, Albania, Brazil, the Philippines among others.

It is not a requirement in Iceland, France, or Russia

***

But outside of country of birth, and age......there are some interesting requirements floating around....

In Iceland, you must have at least 1,500 commendations to be President.

In France.............you must have a bank account! No payday loan people for President!

Turkey requires any President to have obtained 'higher education'.

Angola requires any President to be ethnically African

Adolf Hitler was an Austrian, who became Chancellor of Germany. Although Hitler had terminated his Austrian citizenship in 1925, he did not acquire German citizenship for almost seven years.

President Chester Arthur was a "Republican", then it is fine. Nothing to see here.

See link for bio on Chester Alan Arthur.

It's not "pushing out" anybody, anymore than high home prices in Rosedale pushing out anybody.

Like you would ever have that choice....
I don't know people being homeless while working full time jobs is not common here

Lol

'Some French' is likely not enough for conversations, and I feel that it's unlikely that she held on to that French once she moved back to the US.

Yep. I can't believe people think a bit of high school French would make her fluent. What we should be excited about is that she probably understands Canada's geography, cultural nuances and anxiety about the US, better than any American President or Vice-president in history.

Whatever the issues with kamala she does not take away votes like an Aoc would.

Lol male support for Biden would have nosedive lol
