Next Mayor of Toronto?

Look at me, I am the Ontario PC party. Watch as I stay in power for most of the twentieth century. Watch as I don't put any money toward expanding or maintaining our power generation network to meet the expanding needs of Ontarians. Now watch as I let some other party get in power and deal with building expensive infrastructure. I'll stand on the sidelines and call them socialists who waste our tax dollars!

Wasn't it you guys who praised Smitherman for having the support of the PC? Now what? The PC is the bad guys now? Yet you allying yourself with the bad guys? What's the deal? :)

Yes, the PC should have invested more in nuclear power generations, providing they have got the money. Kind of hard after Bob Rae, don't you think? In any case, it does not give Liberals the right to waste MY tax dollars.

And I suspect the PC won't stand on the sidelines for too long now. I don't like the PC personally, but we need a shock in the provincial political landscape probably even more than one in Toronto. No matter who wins the Toronto race, we are witnessing a shift to the right and I suspect it's only the beginning.

I didn't... say that?

Hydro costs have gone up because of an aggressive target to eliminate the province's coal plants and a tremendous effort to update infrastructure. Is it being done efficiently as it could be? Who knows. But it's not some insidious liberal plot to spend a bunch of money on stuff for no reason.

Oh, of course not. They have very good reasons.

"Originally conceived as a “virtual†and “transitional†agency, overall OPA expenses have exploded by a staggering 465%. The number of people making over $100,000 at OPA has grown from 6 in 2005 to 75, including former McGuinty spokesperson Ben Chin, who made $185,000 last year. Longtime Liberals Patrick Monaghan, Lyn McLeod, and Adele Hurley are also on the OPA Board."

Very good reasons indeed. Now, children, let's guess their pension, shall we?

That is true......but surely the overall payroll numbers must be available somewhere too?

I was just pointing out how absurd the stats were that he was throwing out.The actual numbers can probably be found but I can't be bothered to go find it. I just don't care really, and feel there's nothing wrong with people making a good earning.

That's why politicians "feel there's nothing wrong with" wasting taxpayers' money. I wouldn't mind it either if I didn't have to pay taxes.

"Wasting taxpayers' money" is becoming such a cliche. The fact is that what you might find as wasteful, I might find as essential. Also, I've had the fortunate opportunity to have been taught by former Federal Cabinet Ministers (including a former PM) and I can say with a fair amount of certainty that they aren't out to "waste taxpayers money." People have given "politician" such a negative connotation that you'd think that we were living in a corrupt African state.

perhaps archanfel would like people to work for free, like some communist utopia. :p

Politicians do bad things all the time, that is not state corruption, that's merely personal corruption. Sometimes they are merely incompetent rather than malicious, so it may not even be personal corruption. It's only when people dare not criticize such politicians, it becomes state corruption. The difference between Canada and a corrupt state is that we have the right to criticize politicians and vote them out.

p.s. I took out the "African" part in case somebody wants to accuse me of being a racist. :)

I have no problem with people criticizing and voting them out. But, people throw the term "wasting taxpayers money" around without any substance to back it up, or at least they seem to have insane ideas about what is considered wasteful. Some people see putting money into the waterfront or Nathan Phillips Square as "wasteful", others see pizza lunches for staff as "wasteful". I find neither of those wasteful at all. Some people take a big project that went over budget as "wasteful" even if the project has had benefits despite the cost (for example, e-health). I'm not standing up for any one politician because yes there are cases of people doing things for the wrong reasons, but far too often people use these terms without any substance to prop them up or they blanket all politicians with the same qualities when that simply isn't the case. Rob Ford is doing just that, as if paper clips and stationary are wasteful government purchases and people are buying it without giving a second thought.

Nah, it's not racist. Africa just happens to be home to some of the most corrupt governments in the world.

Sue-Ann Levy is a stalwart columnist for the venerable Toronto Sun, an objective newspaper of record that just happens to casually throw around terms like 'Fiberals.'

Agreed.. that being said, those quotes came from George....

On another note, people wonder why Rob Ford will get the sympathy vote

Doctor in his 'righteous' attitude thinks he has an obligation to be calling him out like that?

So ironic:
TTC sources a 700k sweetheart deal to a lawfirm and 15k Giambrone personal goodbye video....
For how much the left despise Ford, they sure are contributing ammo to his cause.

Well, it's always subjective. In the end, I am entitled to my opinion and you are entitled to your own. I will vote based on my conscious and I hope you do the same.
