Re: Bloor Danforth subway 1966

I'm blown away, those are amazing. It's just sad to see what happend at Avenue rd. and Bloor, it looked so nice with all of those trees.

Re: Bloor Danforth subway 1966

I'm blown away by the 1960s pics of Weston. What a crying shame what happened to that part of Toronto.

Re: Bloor Danforth subway 1966

I went and checked out these archives myself. I gotta say my jaw dropped looking at almost every picture. Especially some of the Bay Street stuff. Just wow.

Re: Bloor Danforth subway 1966

What great pictures!! This must be the best thread I have seen on this board. Thank you.

It's interesting to see how some areas have changed almost 100% over a period of 40 years or less. Other areas have changed very little and the streetscape is still recognizable.

Interesting. The Lumsden Bldg already lost its cornice by 1954ish (but still had it in the late 30s)

That ramp goes to the east entrance of historic Fort York. It's still there today.

Re: Bloor Danforth subway 1966

I think that ramp off the bathurst bridge must have went to Ft York, as it does now....

As for framing -- you can go to the archives and order these printed up, and blown up, for a not-too-expensive cost. Then frame them yourself. we did this for the Toronto The Good party last year.

Re: Bloor Danforth subway 1966

^Hadn't noticed that ramp last time I was in the area.

Found an interesting shot at Toronto Traction. Queen and Don River, with a mysterious, hitherto unknown streetcar route next to the river. I have to assume it was a precursor to the Broadview route, as it not only seems to link up with Queen, but then swerves east to destinations unknown. Also, note the train tracks on the east side of the Don. I wonder when they were shifted over.

Re: Bloor Danforth subway 1966

^ Wasn't there a line that once went up Taylor Creek? I think the Bloor Danforth line uses that route from just before Victoria Park Station to Kennedy.
