Church-Wellesley Village

I see on the news tonight that he won't even attend the Pride flag raising at City Hall. Barbara Hall, David Millar and even old Mel never missed any community events, there was barely a night when you wouldn't see them on the news at some event with 20 people or 500,000 people.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he at last year's Pride parade when he was campaigning?

No, Ford and his supporters did NOT march in last year's parade. All the other candidates did. Funny thing is, Ford had about 5 or 6 supporters giving out adverts but they were on the south side of Carlton street, outside the official Pride Fest area. They all kept outside the fence, so they were safe from the homosexual barbarians. (yet they were still handing out those flyers to every gay man walking by) Talk about hutzpah.

Are you sure? I distinctly remember Doug Ford being present, and perhaps Rob as well... and yes, this was within the crowd element, and not in the parade.

I''ll assume you're just not familiar with the neighbourhood, but ford spent a lot of time at church and alexander, just after the parade ended....that's not south of Carlton and well within the 'pride area'

He had campaign workers just outside the Village handing-out flyers at Church & Carlton. I don't believe they were in the Village-proper, nor was he at all.

It's no coincidence that the lowest return of support for Rob Ford on election day was the polling station closest to Church & Wellesley.

Rob Ford was certainly on Church at Carlton handing out pamphlets and stickers on Pride parade day last year. I guess his family tradition can be ignored if there's an election underway.

I've been going to pride just about every year for the last 30 years and I once lived in The Village, so I know the area quite well. (I still go about 3 times a week) I was up and down Church Street, all that day and I did not see Ford or any of his supporters inside the official Pride area. I only saw Ford's supporters when I left the festival area. (south side of Gerrard) I never said Ford was not there but I did not see him or his crew anywhere on the Pride grounds. Even when Ford's crew approached people, they did so reluctantly. I think they were afraid of getting an ear-full.

You mentioned that, just as I and a few others mentioned that we saw him on church street, well within the 'pride area' handing out flyers.

I think Ford said it's the Canada Day long weekend that is the family traditional vacation but that brings up another thing. I was at last year's Canada Day celebration and I faintly remember seeing Rob Ford there. I'm not 100% sure. I clearly remember seeing a Ford crew, giving out flyers but I also think Ford was there. I saw him at many events last summer, so I can't be sure. Did anybody else go to the Canada Day party last year and see Ford there? (anybody got pics or video of the event) I frequently film events around town but Canada Day parties are just a bit too lame for me but I now wish I would have filmed that one. lol Is there any way of checking where Ford was last Canada Day? I wonder how he would explain that one?

I posted this over in the Rob Ford thread. If I read this correctly, it says he was handing out rainbow stickers but it's not specific as to where. If true, then he's lying.

Though to be fair, it may not be so much a disendorsement of a homophobe, so much as an endorsement of Favourite Son Smitherman...

If he was he there last year, it surely takes things to a whole new level. Regardless, I don't want him there and don't need his (or any politician's, right or left) approval of my sexuality. Rob Fraud IS a homophobe and I didn't need this to prove it to me.

What I find frustrating is how the gay community is being perceived — like cry-baby whiners who are begging for Mr Ford's appearance. We aren't. We REALLY aren't. He cut his ties with the community long ago and beyond Repentance as far as I'm concerned. I know he doesn't support us. I know he's homophobic.

Fraud new exactly the brouhaha this would cause and what the outcome would be: he comes out looking like a hetero family man being pressured by a bunch of "downtown, lefty, gay, socialist, elitists" who demand "special rights", etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. His voters are LOVING this and his incompetencies as mayor will be overlooked come next election. All he has to do is say "socialists" (the right LOVE that word), "gay", "lefty", "downtown" and "cultural elitists" (another one they love) in a speech and he's in. Say what you want about him, but he (well, his people) are amazing strategists and are awesome at PR. Or they are just f-ing lucky.
