Paging whatthe and our other legal friends on UT: What do you make of the proceedings so far at Lisi's drug trial? I've covered a few trials over the years and know they can be wandering affairs as the evidence is laid out. But this seems especially draggy. My take so far is that, since the quantities involved a the time of the arrests were small, the Crown is trying to establish that Bahrami was involved in dealing larger volumes. Does that sound right?

I don't think so. This is perfectly normal for a case involving lengthy undercover investigations. The main UC is often on the stand for days or more. Some do like to talk more than others, but its not unusual.

I think it must have been the tweet asking to "sign up my group" for clean up day: The 1st Etobicoke Black Prince & Gatorade Bottles Brigade.

So, virtually non-news - "if you are a candidate for surgery you will get it on date x".

TORONTO - Cancer surgery may be just over a month away, Councillor Rob Ford said Wednesday.

Doctors told the former mayor earlier this week that they think they can operate on the tumour in his abdomen, Ford said.

“It is all tentative now,” he said. “They think they can (operate). That’s really good news.”

A CAT scan is scheduled for Thursday and an MRI for the end of April, with surgery tentatively scheduled for May 7, he said.

While Ford cautioned that his doctors won’t make the final call until after the MRI, he was optimistic about his health given how he responded to the months of cancer treatment.

“I took the radiation well and I took the chemo well,” Ford said at City Hall. “They were very shocked at how good I took it.”

Doctors have warned him it will take several months to recover if they end up operating, he said.

“I’m going to be on the shelf, they said, for at least four months,” Ford said.

The Etobicoke North (Ward 2) councillor has been battling cancer since last September. He dropped out of the mayor’s race just days after he was diagnosed and ran for his old council seat instead, while his brother, Doug Ford, went on to run unsuccessfully for mayor.

Earlier this week, Mayor John Tory made it clear he won’t attend a fundraiser for the Fords’ campaigns due to the attack ads aimed at him by Doug Ford’s mayoral campaign.

Rob Ford shrugged off the mayor’s snub.

“If John doesn’t want to come, that’s up to him,” Ford said. “We’re having a huge event though, ticket sales are going great.”

But he said Tory’s public refusal to attend has “absolutely” helped them advertise the event.

“You know what, John, he just keeps saying, ‘No, he’s not coming.’ That’s more tickets for us,” Ford said. “We still want John to come but the more he says no, I just want to remind people it is May 14.”

Meh indeed...

The Sun uses the term "operable" in its headline, but I wonder what that means. As JGHali has pointed out in the past, there a different kinds of cancer surgery. Obviously, the goal is to remove the tumor completely, but surgeries may also be done to prolong life or relieve symptoms. I wonder where Rob falls on the spectrum. (I'm thinking prolong life or better.) Also, I'm not surprised Rob's doctors are recommending surgery of some sort. Unless the operation would kill him, why not? My guess is they won't know how far they can go with the process until they get detailed imagining. Any of our experts care to weigh in?

ETA: And to pudd's original point, it sounds like the only news here is the tentative date. Doesn't sound like he's had any fresh scanning. They're just put him in the queue so they can move quickly if the results are good.
