Her actual words and rhetoric have been largely the politicking of a seasoned politician rather than that of a genuine character...For instance when she brought up the stroller-mom waiting for the bus.
We were rolling our eyes by that point. Maybe that folksy crap works on a certain demographic, but I'd like to think most engaged Torontonians see right through that vacuous pandering. She needs to quit the political theatrics and work on being genuine. I'm still not sure why she has such a passionate base pushing her towards this; she has completely unimpressed us thus far. Maybe we just expected too much, but I don't get the impression she really cares at all. Seems like a bunch of "handlers" have taken control and are just pushing her towards this. Much like a bunch of guys in dark suits went to see Michael Ignatieff before he ran for the Liberal leadership.
Seeing Olivia Chow from this angle in the debate today, I wouldn't be surprised if many Torontonians are buying into Tory, Stintz and Ford's rhetoric of Chow being the 'NDP' candidate and the general fear-mongering that it implies.
At least Tory convinced us he was being genuine and sincere in his approach, even if it is all an act. I feel like out of all the candidates, he and (ugh) Ford were the only ones who actually showed up as themselves.
