Also, they're still calling it Under Gardiner, eh...
I'm not sure when they're making the jump to the new name. Maybe they're standing on the end of the dock worried about a belly flop.

From the Sept WT Board Meeting - CEO Report:

The Bentway (previously called Project: Under Gardiner)
Detailed Design for The Bentway was completed and submitted to the City and utility companies for their review on July 4, 2016. The team has completed its second cost estimate which was used to refine the Phase One scope of work to include only the items which can be completed within the $25 million donation from the Matthews Foundation. The next design milestone is Detailed Design (or 90% design), which will be submitted to the City for the purpose of obtaining a permit to commence construction and will be the basis for the construction tender process. It is anticipated that the 90% drawings will be completed in October 2016, with a goal to obtain a construction permit in November/December, with a full construction start in January 2017.
WT has nearly completed its procurement process for the Construction Manager (CM) for the project. It is anticipated that this contract will be awarded to the preferred proponent in mid-September. After the contract is awarded the CM will work with the team during pre-construction to develop a detailed schedule, establish tendering packages and procure trades to complete the construction activities.
In July, Toronto City Council approved the filing of the Environmental Assessment for a proposed crossing at Fort York Boulevard which recommended a Suspended Bridge as the preferred alternative. Following Council approval the team has completed a draft of the environmental study report which will be filed for public review and approval in September.
In July Toronto City Council also approved moving forward with a governance and funding model for the programming, operations and maintenance which proposed that a not-for-profit charitable corporation is the most appropriate governance model for The Bentway. To support the early stage operations of the non-profit entity, a one-time draw of $10 million in City capital funding was recommended as a match to $10 million of the Donor's funds and directed to programming, operations and maintenance from 2016 to 2023. The City's $10 million contribution would be drawn from Development Charges and cash-in-lieu funds intended for the creation of parkland and recreational space (these capital funds cannot be directly committed to operating expenses)
The Donor's $10 million operating contribution would be drawn from its original $25 million capital donation to the Project. Since being approved by Council, WT continues to work with the City of Toronto and the Matthews Foundation to amend the MOU to reflect this approach.

Another additional detail of note from the presentation - the Corten walls of the Fort York Visitor's Centre will be extended to house the Zamboni and potentially a new public washroom:

What do they need storage for a zamboni for are they thinking this is going to be like the redu canal in ottawa and poel will want to go skating on it?

From the upcoming October 25 WT Board Meeting CEO Report:

The Bentway
The design team continues to respond to comments from City Staff and further develop the detailed design work for The Bentway, with the next design milestone, 90% Construction Documents anticipated for the end of October, 2016. This milestone will be marked with a submission to the City for the purpose of obtaining a permit to commence construction and will be the basis for the construction tender process. Following submission to the City, late November or early December remains the target to obtain a construction permit, with a full construction start in January 2017.
Waterfront Toronto has completed its procurement process for the Construction Manager (CM) for the project. The contract has been awarded to Peter Kiewit Infrastructure Co. Over the next few weeks, the CM will begin work with the team to develop a detailed schedule, establish tendering packages and procure trades to complete the construction activities. The team continues to work on the environmental study report which follows the approval of the Environmental Assessment for a proposed crossing at Fort York Boulevard. It is anticipated that the environmental study report will be filed for public review and approval in October.
In September, the Bentway Foundation was incorporated, which was a key milestone for the ongoing governance of the project. In order to support programming, operations and maintenance, the non-profit entity has begun to advance the hiring process for several key staff members, including a Chief Executive Officer, as well as a Director of Fund Development. Waterfront Toronto continues to work with the City of Toronto and the Matthews Foundation to amend the MOU to reflect the governance and funding approach approved by Toronto City Council in July.
The team was also successful in securing additional funding from the federal government’s Canada 150 fund, with a grant of $175,000 earmarked for 2017 programming and some activation items such as public art for The Bentway. (p.4)

Notes from today's project email update:

We’re now officially The Bentway. Visit our new website!
Back in June, we announced that The Bentway was the clear winner of the run-off vote in our city-wide Project: Under Gardiner naming campaign. It’s a name that celebrates "the bents" – the column-and-beam structures that frame the spaces of what will soon become a vibrant urban trail. Today, we launch our new website. Come check it out at thebentway.ca.

What’s next?
Over the summer months and into the fall, our team advanced along many parallel tracks. We established The Bentway Conservancy, a new not-for-profit organization that will take over the reins of the project. We are now finalizing the design and working toward securing all the approvals required to begin construction later this fall. We’ll build out The Bentway with a series of phased openings in 2017 and 2018. In the coming weeks, we’ll have more important updates, but, for now, you’ll want to read this blog post from urban design lead Ken Greenberg, as we look toward the work ahead.

Well if they're planning on painting all the "bents" in that striking yellow hue then I don't care what they call the project. ;)

They can alternate between that yellow they're proposing and black - then you can call it "The Tiger" or "The Wasp"...

Actually if they paint each bent in a different colour, it could be a giant piece of public art in the making.

Just delaying the inevitable for a bit. Yeuuuuch.

Probably not very many currently, but aside from the silly name, this could be a very innovative and well-used space once it's done.

I think more poel will stumble on it by accident or get lost trying to find it then will actually ever know about it. Like for example thee are pole that don't even know about the zoo in high park. I also one time was talking to someone at the Toronto Zoo that though African Lina safari was bigger then the Toronto Zoo.
