Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

It got fast-tracked and will open sooner than schedule pending the work which is very deep
That's cool. If they actually build it this time. Yes, very deep.

Montreal/Quebec has a long tradition of promising projects (both road and transit), and not delivering. At least since Drapeau left.

We need to stop acquiescing for the cheapest construction method possible and instead opt for the BEST city building method possible. We only have one-shot at the DRL, don't let short-sightedness screw things up for generations to come.

Then I would suggest not looking at the technical evaluations for this project. If you believe anything coming out of Kesmaat's planning pups, Unilever-King scored the highest on the various city building criteria they used but they said nah it costs too much to cross the mighty Don down at the south end so we're gonna opt for Queen from the outset. Cost control they said.

Of course as usual SOP, her department immediately flip flopped and made the cost argument mute by circling back and picking up Unilever and piled on extra costs by forcing the longer and deeper tunnels they'll need to head back to Queen Street. Do they even know where they stand?

Annnnd just for funsies I took that screenshot of yours and circled all of the destinations and major nodes on the east side of TOcore on both King and Queen corridors.

The city must not missed this opportunity to get a subway under Dufferin @ Queen

Even if the section between Eglinton (Science Centre) and Sheppard (Don Mills) is deemed as a higher priority, there's still a strong argument for alleviating the 501/504 out to Queen and Roncesvalles; which could serve two new GO stations at Dufferin and Roncesvalles respectfully.

A phase one from Stockyards (Keele/St Clair) to Pape/Cosburn would be ideal and could probably be done within the 15 year timeframe.

It's undeniable that Dufferin is overcrowded and only rapid transit can relieve that corridor that can no longer be ignored

If they want to cheap out the western DRL could terminate at Liberty Village that can connect with both Exhibition Station and a new GO station at King with the other corridor.

If built under Queen, Dufferin station would be a 250-450m walk to the north edge of a GO station on the north side of King either by street or expensive underground tunnel. If you want to make transit useless, that's how you do it.

But here is an interesting email from the documents TorStar got a hold of. Is this destination data? The high priced consultants were looking for additional data from the city. Did Tim Laspa ever provide it? What would block data look like for downtown east and downtown west? Planning never voluntarily bestowed any such pretty pictures on the taxpaying public. I have a strong suspicion the darkest blocks would be clustered around King Street also.

Late edit - I saw this proposal on the front page. It seems to be on the same lot the city was proposing as a possible subway entrance. Will the Pape NIMBY's fight this too?

The City has the location of the ST station right. It needs to be close to Liberty Village. The problem of the distance between the north end of the ST station and a DRL station at Queen and Dufferin is easily overcome by a pedestrian tunnel with travelators of the kind used in most airports: a moving sidewalk in each direction.
