I saw this in section 1.8 of Counsellor's Handbook:

"Members who resign to seek election and are successful in being elected as a Member of Parliament or Member of Provincial Parliament"

What are you referring to? I see nothing about running for re-election as Councillor or Mayor. Do you have a quote we can take a look at?

1.8 Severance

Severance is paid to Members who retire, resign from office, are
not re-elected to office, or die during their term of office.
An exception is made for Members who resign to seek election
and are successful in being elected as a Member of Parliament
or Member of Provincial Parliament, in which case severance is
not paid. Severance is also not paid if the Member is convicted of
certain Criminal Code offences or if disqualified from holding
office.

France's Nunziata registered for reelection in January and we know she didn't resign. Or Stintz. Same with Rob Ford. The need to resign only applies if the councillor is running for a provincial or federal seat. (See p 25). Adam Vaughan resigned to seek election and he will not receive severance but no one seeking reelection to city council did needs to resign and continues to be eligible for severance should they not be reelected.

Not at all JWBF. All I want to figure is if Doug is getting paid as a full-time councillor to campaign as mayor. And, who is taking care of Ward 2?

I can't help but think that Tory's peeps would find benefit in having Ari removed from the debate too...

Without Ari, they other two would gang up on MISTER Tory. He seems to polite ( or intimidated? ) to strike back.

I was agreeing with you. You said it better . I cited Nunziata, Stintz and Ford as examples of those who registered early but didn't resign. It would be difficult to conduct business for 10 months if everyone who was seeking reelection had to resign. Vaughan resigned because he had to in order to run for Chow's federal seat.

I was just questioning if Doug should perhaps consider campaigning for mayor on his own time, rather than on City time. Or perhaps he is on unpaid leave of absence?

Everyone that is running for re-election is basically being paid to campaign, including Doug. Just another flaw in the system.

Old Toronto timidity to be sure. There is no way in the world that Blusterf*ck should be determining terms, "Him or me, whouldya want?" I want a small, elderly woman to shove her finger squarely in his ample torso and say. "Who the fuck do you think you are?"
