Rob Ford's Toronto

I don't think they're going to fake a heart attack or anything like that. No, if it happens it'll just be some vague "doctor's recommendation" that he slow down, maybe connected to his obvious physical health issues or maybe to his "addiction recovery process." Whatever plays for sympathy, skates just this side of plausible deniability, and doesn't require Ford to actually change anything about his behaviour.

He'll also blame the biased media, the left-wing elites and socialists/communists for his failure.

Yes, but the Mikey resign for Uncle Rob scenario post-election is not implausible. Let's not think about how much that byelection would cost taxpayers, because you can't put a price on democracy apparently (especially when it's gamed by his family).

But then council could appoint someone instead if Mike resigns.

It won't be a failure, remember! He'll HAVE to do it, doctor's orders!

Or (and this is my black heart talking) he'll find a way to make his kids the excuse.

That was a horrible presentation. He doesn't have a clue what people want.
People don't want subways, or LRTs or car lanes...

People want to get to work in a reasonable time. They will use what ever transport method works.
Transit is about moving a large number people, in a reasonable amount of time, at the lowest cost per km travelled.

He wants to spent $100 Billion thinking he will clear the streets for his Caddy?
That won't work. Auto traffic is like a gas. It will expand to fill available space.

They could - which is why I brought up the "you can't put a price to democracy" comment - which he has used as an argument against council appointment prior, and that is frankly a good argument if a substantial portion of the term remains.
