In my experience this is correct. I guess by expecting a good debunking to actually change people's minds, I'm practising my own cognitive dissonance.
With respect to Ford Nation this gets even more depressing. Ford Nationals identify as being against "tax and spend socialism", yet they support a plan to have three levels of government pay for an unnecessary publicly owned subway. Worse yet, the value decision was made by a mayor who hadn't bothered to read the existing plan!
How do we teach people to think critically? How do we avoid ideology trumping fact?

Why is Ford in the speaker's chair? I assume it's because Nunziata was asking a question, but why Ford? It just seems ridiculous that he is moderating discussion related to a motion regarding his position.
