Rob Ford - Why the Supervillian?

Yes and no. I wouldn't call him authentic, he is childish. A child is usually genuine, i.e. they say whatever comes to their mind. However, if they did something wrong, they sometimes would stubbornly deny it until proven otherwise. That's exactly what Rob Ford is like.

Making light of him? Or making fun of him? I don't see how photoshopping a picture is "making light of him". Yeah, yeah we all know he is fat, so are a lot of people, give it a rest.
 
deceitful about his being busted for DUI and pot? I'm not sure that he was deceitful. Was he deceitful cuz he didn't reveal that charge earlier? People are entitled to a certain amount of privacy in my opinion. He may not have told the whole truth,but, like everyone,he's trying to control the damage to his reputation. Again, he's not an angel. But, if you noticed another candidate revealed her charge history shortly after he was outed. It's weird,but, I think it'll work in his favor...all the negative stuff that is coming out about him. Everybody has something to hide,and news/media will exploit,twist and turn every fault a public figure has. Fact is, he has endured that onslaught. DUI is not right in anyway,but, as for as I remeber the charges were dropped. He was caught with pot, my sense most youth will identify with that cuz marijuana use is on the rise. I'm not saying it's right,but,he continues to rank highly in the polls. what if photos were released of smitherman at a bathhouse? would the media exploit that and say he doesn't possess the values we are looking for as a mayor? maybe..or would it be seen a celebration of gay rights? It could go both ways. Again, I'm not necessarily supporting him..but, despite his bad press, last time I looked he was in the lead.
 
One problem I don’t like seeing are these amateur transit planners, who try to put forth their ideas without doing research into their ideas. They don’t know the costs involved, or the infrastructure needed to support it, or what zoning is required to make it so, or what is required to maintain it, or to see what history has produced elsewhere from their or other ideas. They maybe good at brainstorming ideas, but don’t want to take the time to scrutiny them. They want something without looking further at the ramifications.

We saw what happened to cities across North America when the great idea of replacing streetcars with buses happened without doing any kind of good research. We ended up with cities like Detroit with their empty downtowns, with sprawl all around, people abandoning buses to drive, and just adding to the traffic congestion. A New Detroit will be coming with Rob Ford in control.

I agree. Although I don't think Rob Ford is the only one guilty of being the amateur transit planner. They are politicians, they are not technicians. That's why it's important that any projects are done professionally. I generally treat all specific promises with a grain of salt.

No one cares that he was busted for pot. What everyone cares about is that he lied about it when asked. A reporter (from the Sun, no less) asked if he had ever been charged with drug posession and he said no (it was more like an "No. No. A thouand times no. I'm offended that you'd even ask." tirade). It was only when shown the record that he admitted to it...and his excuse was that he was also charged with failing to give a breath sample, so he forgot about the pot charge...except that the arrest affidavit showed that he was actually charged with DUI...and it was only when shown the record of it that he admitted that it was actually a DUI (but that he "got the terminology mixed up"...no he didn't, a DUI is a DUI).

Just like when he drunkingly berated a couple at a Leafs game and was escorted out of the ACC. When asked about it the next day, he lied and said he wasn't even at the game. It was only when shown proof that he admitted to it.

This isn't a couple of isolated instances, it's a pattern of behaviour. Like others have said, he's like a little child: when he does wrong his immediate instinct is to lie and deny...and it's only when confronted with irrefutable proof that he mans up to his mistakes and even then he still tries to downplay them. This is who you're ok with as your mayor? Because you "know what you're getting with him"? Really?
 
We have some people who seem to say they agree with Rob Ford, just to picked for his team inside City Hall, should he win. But are they yesmen and yeswomen? Will they just agree to what he says and wants, to stay on his good side; or will they risk presenting the facts, problems, and other points of view?

In the past 10 years or so, he does not seem that he wants to listen to other points of view. How is he during debates in the council chamber? Does he listen, or does he leave the council chamber (to grab a snack)?
 
exactly,we've established a pettern of behaviour.you know what you're getting when you vote for him. you made my point better than I could. I never said I'm a supporter. Every politician will deny,twist the truth to suit their needs. If I spent enough time looking into every candidate and what they said, I'd find the same thing. twisted truths. Ford is obvious,he can't hide his behaviour,I said that in my first post...whether you think it's childish or not, a voter knows what they're getting into. Sounds like people are angry that he likely is ahead in the mayoral polls...but, now I hope he wins, so, I have someone fun to watch on TV!!!!!!!
 
You'd risk the destruction of our city so that you have something fun to watch on TV?

Isn't that similar to a fireman burning down buildings so he has the fun of putting the fires out?

no,I said fascinated with fire. You see, I say one thing,and you twist it and extrapolate into me saying fireman are arsonsits,I said that cuz,that's exactly how people extrapolate to a conclusion that is not even in the sentence.

When Ford says he doesn't want more immigration in toronto,you automatically think he's talking bout visible minorities. Yet,many,many immigrants are from eastern europe and therefore white. He's likely talking about them too.

Rob Ford is clearly a bigot. On that alone he shouldn't be in office.
