I have lived in many places, including suburban areas like Waterloo and Vaughan, but it is only now living in the centre of Ottawa that I am seriously considering buying a car. And by far the main reason is that I can't count on OC Transpo to get me where I'm going when I need to go there. There have been so many times where a trip is cancelled on a 30-min service, or I stand on the curb for 20+ minutes at a stop that's supposed to have a bus every 4 minutes, and most frustratingly, buses often depart early, which causes passengers to miss the bus and be unable to get to their appointments on time.

OC Transpo doesn't know or even care when it will open. It's run by someone whose only concern is not being shown to be wrong by picking a date they can't stick to or something going awry with the service. She was telling us in the spring it would probably open in June.... Time for a change at the top; we need someone who gives a hoot about the citizens of Ottawa.

In the latest news update, the Eastern section has been delayed to fall, which I would interpret really as 2026

Once again another article that has a misleading headline. Dec 6 is when they're going to have a technical briefing and announce the launch date, not the actual date its being launched

Yes it's a date for when we'll get the date, maybe. OC Transpo itself has not explicitly said they'll give a date, just an update on the timeline, which allows them to weasel out. The media is thinking they are getting a date, just like they did the last 3 updates from OC Transpo

Has there been any updates on the city of Ottawa purchasing the CN Walkley and Beachburg subdivisions?

Would be great to get the Stadler FLIRT's running east - west on these tracks.

Last heard, CN isn't interested in selling those parts that the city doesn't already own, but since that parts an active railway still the city could probably contract using that stretch

However given OC Transpo's budget crisis (like most public transit agencies) all future rail expansion is on hold

Offhand, I can't think of any other Canadian city where rail expansion is on hold! We see new projects not held in Hamilton, Waterloo, Toronto, and all over the GO Transit network in Southern Ontario. We see a federal rail expansion with VIA HFR. We see Ontario's Northland expansion going ahead. We see work in Vancouver and planning for the next Millennium line expansion. They are moving towards building the Blue Line extension in Montreal after about a 40-year hold. I'm not up on Calgary and Edmonton, but this seems the exact opposite.

It looks to me to be the opposite. If all expansion was on hold, then the tender for the Line 1 extension would be cancelled.
