Discussing the merits of Smithermans transit plan is completely irrelevant. The man REFUSES to release his list of donors (e-health consultants) and therefore CANNOT BE TRUSTED. Smitherman will promise you the moon to get elected but don't think for a second that he will follow through on his promises. Rob Ford, and Pantalone for that matter, are men of integrity (both have released their donor lists). You may not like their promises but you can be sure they will follow through on them.

What makes Ford's promises more believable? Is it the sheer incredulity of them? Sipping that Kool-aid?
Ford seems to be the one promising the moon here. Cutting taxes, improving service, balancing the budget. When has that ever proved possible? Should he win tomorrow night, it will be fun to see his supporters steadily lose faith in him as we see either taxes go up or services slashed to the bone, oh and of course the "gravy train" will be "stopped". Snake-oil salesman if there ever was one. If his plan for the TTC is anything like how he'll handle the rest of the city, let's just hope we don't look like Detroit in 2014. Well, I guess Ottawa is a fairer comparison.

Yes you can deliver on services while cutting taxes IF you cut WASTE. A good example of waste is the $12,000 farewell party that that pig Kyle Rae threw for himself (and which Smitherman attended). How did this $12,000 expenditure benefit the taxpayer?

Right. Waste. So... $12,000, that's what, 3 or 4 cents per taxpayer? Gravy train and waste are your favourite talking points, but how does all this waste balance the budget? Beyond that, it seems like a lot of waste will be in Ford's plan too. Removing streetcars and streetcar tracks will cost a fortune, not to mention the 3 buses (and 3 drivers) that would be needed to replace them. That's a ton of waste in my eyes. Could you give me an example of a mayor that has been able to balance the budget solely based on waste and not service reduction and/or tax increases? Because, you know, Larry O'Brien ran on the exact same populist pie-in-the-sky economic message and failed miserably and chances are so will Ford because the formula doesn't exist unless you adhere to some mystical school of finances. You can admit to service decreases and I won't jump all over you. I mean, I don't agree with it whatsoever, but at least it's being honest. Waste alone is not going to balance the budget, not without, for instance, scaling back off-peak bus service and possible cancellations of certain routes, eliminating most cultural festivals, eliminating any attention to public spaces - you know, the things that make this city worth living in.

$12,000 is just a very tiny tip of the ICEBERG . The waste at city hall is sickening. We have, for example, Adam Vaughans (who I HOPE gets kicked out) Peter Street homeless shelter where the cost per BED - $250,000 - could buy each homeless resident a Luxury Condo!

Man, Minister of Health is a sucker gig, isn't it? No one can come out of that position looking great.
As far as the donor list thing goes, it bothers me some that he won't release it prior to the election. But I really can't imagine any names that could be on that list that would shock or repulse me. I imagine it contains several high-level Liberals both at the provincial and federal level and they'd prefer that their association with George not be used to attack his candidacy. Keeping the narrative focused on Ford and the issues is probably the right play rather than play into crazy Toronto Sun headlines that are all "SOCIALIST PROVINCE-KILLER BOB RAE DONATES TO DOOMED SMITHERMAN CAMPAIGN."

There's no point responding to Peepers, he's clearly not familiar with any of the candidates platforms and feasibility, including Ford's. I guess he's just over the moon at stopping the gravy train, which, judging from his posts, I'm not sure he understands what that means, if anything, or its implications. EG: the seniors who are pro-ford because he'll deal with waste, like cutting the low ridership/revenue bus routes that serve those same seniors.
Anyway, onto more important matters.. a final poll coming out today? Anyone know?

There must be at least 1 poll out today. If the trend is to be believed, Smitherman should have a slight lead.
Darkstar and I were out all night blanketing Transit City routes with the www.facebook.com/chooseyourToronto maps. I'm sure people will make the right choice, once educated about each candidate's transit plans. Thanks SimplyDan for printing them out!
