New Transit Funding Sources

@Solid Snake.

This works IMO for everyone.

Waterfront LRT's are being built already, so that's a good list. Is Harper going to give more money for sheppard? because if not, Sheppard will continue.

Not at present. They're just rebuilding the safety islands to accommodate the 30.2 m lengths of the new Outlook streetcars. The current islands accommodate the 23 m lengths of the ALRVs. Also, they are not on a right-of-way west of the Humber River (Park Lawn).

Oh okay. Hopefully they get built.

IMO if sheppard is canceled, then make it a real subway... just bringing it to STC won't help ridership. Extend it to Jane or Weston Rd. But not past, we don't have to cannibalize finches ridership.

Weston to McCowan would have a lot of ridership. Keele and Sheppard being completely revitalized and most of the riders on the already overcrowded 84 Sheppard West bus comes from Jane St and beyond. Sheppard East has potential if it gets properly connected to Oriole GO and Agincourt GO stations which could stimulate further the growth that STC will be getting from the subway.

IMO it should go to STC only because that is where most of the people will be going. Weston because that is where sheppard will begin. I'm just not sure how to pay for a full sheppard subway

Also get build the malvern lrt or get rid of the transfer and continue eglinton eat to Kingston Rd.

+1

Stintz's OneCity plan proposed additional Toronto exclusive revenue tools on top of the provincial ones. I expect the same from Chow.

Even if the Province balks at revenue tools, if Stintz or Chow is elected, there's a good chance Toronto may go the revenue tools route on it's own.

There have been enough EAs and studies done over the years on various projects, so hopefully if the revenue tools do get implemented those projects can be taken 'off the shelf' and put into action relatively quickly.

Her OneCity plan will need to be revised. The $28 Billion plan includes ~$5.4 Billion for the DRL and ~$1.3 Billion for the Yonge Subway. However Metrolinx has come out and said that they'll be funding a $7 Billion DRL for the City of Toronto as well as the $1.3 Billion Yonge Subway extension. So that means that there is $6.6 Billion to spend reallocate to other things or the plan will now be a $21 Billion plan.

Personally I'm hoping that if she does use the OneCity plan in her campaign, she'll reallocate the $6.6 Billion to other projects and get rid of some of the redundancies such as InRail Corridors.

I agree. I think the DRL west should go past the rail corridor. Yonge should end at Steeles until the DRL is built.

IMO, what they could also do is switch Eglinton to HRT and build sheppard to Morningside, where it would connect with the Eglinton East as one subway. But this is a pipe dream

Eglinton to HRT isn't going to happen this half-century. Not a chance. You'd be better off diverting the money you would be spending on that upgrade and building an LRT on Lawrence instead.
