Meridian Hall/The Sony Centre will always be the O'Keefe Centre

Though we knew it was coming soon I had never seen the 15th September date before. I assume we will see the new signage then!

To reflect this partnership, on September 15, 2019 The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts will officially be renamed Meridian Hall and the Toronto Centre for the Arts will be officially renamed the Meridian Arts Centre.

The JFL42 comedy fest, that starts a few days later, has awkwardly had to advertise for months now that headline acts are at "Sony Centre (soon to be Meridian Hall)".
Wikipedia describes Sony Centre as "the country's largest soft-seat theatre" with 3191 seats. If that's true, Toronto could probably use a venue about twice the size, maybe something like Radio City Music Hall in NYC or the Microsoft Theater in L.A.
And what happened to the 5000-seat theatre that was being built across the road from Fallsview Casino? I thought it was supposed to open by June or July.

The Sony signage is now removed from above the main front doors. The (always very temporary looking) Sony signage, is still up on the west wall over Yonge.

I know that the flow of discussion in this thread has shifted towards aligning itself with the more exact title wording intent. But to move against this tide and back to the previous nostalgia play, here are some associations my parents, who are immigrants/first generation Canadians that arrived in the 90's, will have always amusingly familiarize with in the city of Toronto:

*For context, we are West Enders so some of these are geographically specific

The Galleria will always be called Food City instead (the grocery store before Freshco and even Price Chopper)
To a lesser extent, the Galleria will always be called Zellers
No Frills (at Dundas W & Lansdowne) will always be Knob Hill Farms
Sobeys (at Dupont & Shaw) will always be IGA
Humber Bay Shores will always be the Cookie Factory

Noticed on weekend that the 'garden' at corner of Yonge & Front has all been excavated - looks as though they had (have?) a leak below it. Another example of poor construction by the L-Tower folk (they built it for the (then) Sony Centre.

BTW. Note to MODs. Maybe change THREAD TITLE so it reads
The Sony Centre will always be the O'Keefe Centre (until it becomes Meridian Hall)

Hey, that title is missing the Hummingbird Centre iteration!

I started banking with Meridian back in August (I jettisoned the big banks due to their shady practices and self-defeating tactics...also I didn't feel like paying them back all their money) and have to say, based on my experience as a member of this credit union, that this is the first ever commercialised name that doesn't entirely make me want to cry.

Sucks for me though because I'm a serious Reds supporter and BMO was my previous main bank. ?

There used to be two Mac's locations across the street from one another at Avenue Rd. and Lawrence shortly after Mac's started taking over Beckers locations. One was a converted former Beckers and the other was a Mac's from day 1. Locals used to have to clarify by saying "Beckers Mac's" or "Mac's Mac's"
Now they're both gone and not a convenience store in sight!

They have now installed signage in and over the 'garden' at corner of Front & Yonge. - sorry no photo. That piece of garden was rather useless and there is still some left . This 'park' is a Claude Cormier project and certainly not up to his magnificent Berczy and his planned Love Park @ York & Queen's Quay. It was a result of L-Tower construction - and part of their site plan - so I blame them!
