Historic Airport Building to Find New Home
The historic airport building on the site of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is getting readied to find a new home

Toronto (November 28, 2011) – The historic airport building on the site of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is getting readied to find a new home in early 2012.
Starting this week the building known as “Terminal A†will be carefully dismantled, to allow the Toronto Port Authority, which owns and operates the popular Billy Bishop Airport, to move it offsite for presentation, according to TPA President and CEO Geoff Wilson.

The entire building, including the control tower, will be preserved. Terminal A is a national historic site built in 1939, and is the only extant building of its kind in Toronto. An identical building at Malton, site of Pearson International, was demolished in the 1960s.

“The TPA wants to be able to preserve this building and make it accessible to the public,†Wilson said. The TPA expects that the building will be dismantled and moved over the course of the next two months.

They should find a way to integrate the building into a part of a new Toronto Aerospace Museum on the waterfront somewhere. Would be an excellent combo. Off-topic, but Anyone hear any updates about the museum's plight?

Toronto cares little for its aviation history, remember Coronation Park, its Lancaster replaced with some Inuit art. On the military, Toronto cares very little, giving HMCS Haida little thought even as she was towed away, and no concern when the museum is closed, and the same Lancaster are carted off.

It will be heading to Downsview Park to become part of their enclave of Heritage Buildings. This was confirmed to me by David Anselmi about a month ago.

A group I work with had hoped to move it to Hanlans Point as part of another project but we were literally about 2 weeks late in tabling our interest for the structure...

Air Canada loses case about Toronto Island airport

Air Canada has lost a Federal Appeal Court case seeking to challenge the allocation of landing slots at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport in the city's harbour, a competitor says.

The court rejected Air Canada's appeal against Porter Airlines Inc. and the Toronto Port Authority, a federal agency that operates the airport, Porter said Tuesday.

"The court found each of Air Canada's arguments to be without merit," and reiterated that the agreements between Porter and the authority were not unfair to Air Canada, Porter said.

Air Canada and Porter have been contesting access and the limited number of landing slots at the airport for some years. Jazz, Air Canada's regional partner, had operated out of the island airport until 2006, when it was evicted from its terminal by a company owned by Porter CEO and president Robert Deluce.

Last year, the airline said it launched a Federal Court lawsuit to regain access to the airport. Rival Porter was the only airline allowed to operate for the airport at the time.

Air Canada regained access in 2010. Airport Co-ordination Ltd., a British consulting firm, recommended giving 30 slots to Air Canada and 16 to Continental, a major U.S. carrier based in Houston. Porter got the remaining 44 of the 90 daily slots then available.

Air Canada did not accept the allocation of landing slots. It launched and lost a case in the Federal Court, and then appealed, losing again in the decision disclosed Tuesday.
