Re: 1 St. Thomas

I always think that the BCE place towers look more like their contemporaries, Swatch pens, than anything from 5 years earlier.

Or maybe it was just because I had Swatch pens that looked like that.

Re: 1 St. Thomas

Actually, the BCE tower is less neo-Deco than neo-Constructivist, a la Kharkov's Gosprom

Re: 1 St. Thomas

This building bothers me for some reason I can't quite explain.

Re: 1 St. Thomas

It doesn't bother me at all, but I can't quite explain why either.

Re: 1 St. Thomas

somehow this building looks too clean to me....maybe it will improve with a bit of grime...give it a couple of years...lol..

btw, thanks for these and the other pics, raptor, and welcome to the forum....

Re: 1 St. Thomas

I've found when viewing it from within a few blocks it's pleasing but from a distance it looses it's punch.

Re: 1 St. Thomas

In a couple of years it'll become hemmed in from all sides and will not be all that noticable.

Re: 1 St. Thomas

Maybe what this building needs is some gargoyles.

Re: 1 St. Thomas

Maybe with some greenery on the balconies and terraces will help as well.

Re: 1 St. Thomas

It's probably the too-whiteness that bugs. Sorta like a ghost, or a plaster-case, or Rome's Victor Emmanuel, etc...

Re: 1 St. Thomas

...or a refugee from Joseph Conrad's 'sepulchural city'...

Re: 1 St. Thomas

I think the balconies will help make it look a little less wedding-cakey.
