Re: Update: 2006.05.02 - Spire, RoCP, Metropolis, Stern, mor

Re: Update: 2006.05.02 - Spire, RoCP, Metropolis, Stern, mor

Hmmmm, getting cautiously optimistic about Metropolis. The massing is definately exciting and its effects on the Square are already being felt. Cool. Now, in all this anxiety over the exterior of the building does anybody know what will actually be in it??

Re: Update: 2006.05.02 - Spire, RoCP, Metropolis, Stern, mor

On a walkabout at lunch today:
- Frank's hot dogs almost ready to open
- ROCP Phase II is at street level, soon to start on second floor.

Didn't want to start a new thread but here are some updates.

Element... love the massing, much better than point towers IMHO.

HELP PLEASE IDENTIFY! I took this photo stitch landscape shot of the south side of Eastern Ave around where it meets Sackville, it is the lot in front of Distillery District. This building has gone up so fast. Can some one please identify what it is? I would appreciate it!

(I'll try and post some pics of the old Corktown King St/Queen St) when I get some time).

Yonge St. is looking good. I can hardly wait to see it in 10 years.

Re: Update: 2006.05.02 - Spire, RoCP, Metropolis, Stern, mor

Sadly, the view of the campanile of Old City Hall, silhouetted against the sky when you look up Bay Street, has now been compromised by the spectre of RoCP looming in the background.

Sadly, the view of the campanile of Old City Hall, silhouetted against the sky when you look up Bay Street, has now been compromised by the spectre of RoCP looming in the background.

Though maybe not as much as
(a) the closer-up spectre of Bell a quarter century ago (even if only modestly above the roofline), or
(b) the blockage of the view-from-the-west by KPMB's Canada Life...

Re: Update: 2006.05.02 - Spire, RoCP, Metropolis, Stern, mor

^^Nice update!!

BTW, is work actually progressing on hTO at all or is it just lagging behind??

The darker glass cladding going up on WestOne and N looks refreshing and an improvement over HVE.

Pinnacle B might actually look pretty good (decent) once the cladding goes on, I actually quite like the green on this one and the massing isn't so overwhelming like tower A. The curved wall might end up looking pretty 'interesting'.

I think the Met might end up looking like one fine building with its unique shapes and I quite like the dark glass. The base cladding reminds me of the "Royalton" just west @ College/Bay.

Thanks CN, Ed and ganjavih for the updates.

re: 1 St. Thomas

The windows looked particularly nice against the limestone at the ground level.
