TTC: Other Items (catch all)

More subway closures cancelled:

Line 2: St George to Broadview Late Opening May 27 - CANCELLED
June/July
Line 1: Lawrence to St Clair closure on June 2 and 3 - CANCELLED
Line 1: Finch West to Lawrence West closure on June 9 and 10 - CANCELLED
Line 2: St George to Broadview Late Opening June 10 - CANCELLED
Line 1: Lawrence to St Clair closure on June 16 and 17
Line 3 Scarborough closure on June 24 - CANCELLED
Line 1: Lawrence to St Clair closure on June 30 and July 1

Not sure why June 16th has not been cancelled.
Probably because it HAS to go ahead to avoid major hold-ups on Crosstown work.

There was a news story somewhere, I believe due to the necessity of completing the work Metrolinx will be supplying the required shuttle buses. They need to get the work done so they are running shuttles.

The Lawrence to St Clair closure is due to Metrolinx Eglinton Crosstown work at Yonge and Eglinton.

At this rate, the amount of track work we're going to see next year and the amount slow orders we're going to be experiencing soon are both going to be astronomical.

Has the TTC resolved the delays between St. George and Wilson evening northbound?

Almost completely, yes. They've also updated the schedule a bit as well - a friend of mine would regularly be 70 to 90 minutes late getting off of his train last board period. It's still early days, but so far the worst he's been is 7 minutes this board.

TTC customers: "OMG TRAINS ARE SO SLOW, FIX THIS TTC"

TTC: "Ok, we will install a new state of the art ATC system"

TTC customers: "WEEKEND CLOSURES? ARE YOU INSANE, TTC IS AWFUL"

TTC: "Oh ok, we will just wave our magic Hogwarts wands and install the ATC system with pixie dust and unicorn farts. "

TTC customers: "Oh, and we want 24 hour subway service too"

Well, the last resort compromise solution is to build new lines that DON'T interchange with existing lines. If they do interchange, then there may be closures at the interchange stations to accommodate the interchange so that must be avoided. I'm obviously joking by the way.

To be fair to TTC riders, they see:

2014 subway closures - 10
2015 subway closures - 27
2016 subway closures - 36
2017 subway closures - 35
2018 subway closures - 43

They might wonder how NYC is able to perform maintenance despite 24 hour service, or how Montreal is able to maintain regular service without constant closures. But Toronto, with several hours of closure for maintenance every night and 4 years straight of interminable weekend subway closures, still has its track and signal system in such a state of disrepair that trains are required to slow to a crawl.

In NYC's case, the way they handle it is by making service a living hell for anybody who has to go somewhere on the weekend. Got any plans on Saturday? No problem, here's what you need to know:

NYC has one of the worst reliability of their subway system in the entire first world. Something like 65% on time performance.

https://nypost.com/2017/06/17/three-quarters-of-citys-subway-lines-plagued-by-chronic-delays/

According to the New York Post, the worst trains at being on time were the 2 line, the 4 line, and the 5 line. The top three offenders only ran on schedule 30.6 percent, 32.7, and 32.8 percent of the time during weekdays.

That is hardly anything to aim for, its clear the answer to "how NYC is performing maintenance with 24 hour service" is that, they aren't.

Ah yes, the life of having more than 3 interchange stations on a single line.

NYC subway have a bullet board at every station stating upcoming closures in small prints. Regular commuters better read up on it or they'll be caught by surprised.

Did the TTC forget to remove an alert or is there really a stalled bus stuck for the past 9 hours in the Beaches ?
