TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

If TTC can get the cars back down to the 8-10 from arrival to service, let the math tell you when a car will be in service. Currently about 15 days this year with a few being less and the rest about it or more.

4512 is being prep for service and the next time it leaves the yard in the next few days, it will be in service. 4513 could see service around Dec 17. It has been sitting on the outbound track for some hours and done very little testing so far to the point it will enter service after Dec 17 at this time.

With 4514 off loaded today, we may see it in service by Dec 20. We may see 4515 about Dec 21. 4516 could see service around the 25th, along with 4572 that week, depending when they arrive. 4517 will not show up until about Dec 18 and maybe in service by the 28th. These are guess dates as everything depends when cars are off loaded, but most of all, no issues arise during testing and doing a 10 day turn around. The longer it takes to test the cars, less cars making to service this year. So, 4518, 4519 and 4571 may show up by year end, don't expect they will be off loaded then, since the last day is the 21, unless CP willing to ship cars on the 27, 28 and 31.

Will see if 4512 enters service today or Thursday.

4515 was off loaded today and 4572 could be the next car or 4516 to be off loaded.

4512 still in the same spot the last 24 hrs in the service bay and may know in the next 12 hours if it going into service on Thursday.

4513 up on St Clair testing.

4512 is still at the service bay, while 4513 is on Queen testing. So, it is possible that 4512 could enter service on Thursday.

4572 most likely be the next car off loaded since it sitting in Lambton Yard, depending where 4516 is. That a short trip and hand off.

As for 4512 entering service, its hard to say when it will be in service and it will depend when it gets move to the yard. Not the first car to spend a number of days in the service bay before it enter service.

4513 is heading back to the Barns on Queen and has been in/out of the service bay a number of times today to the point the GPS had it out in the lake.

You'd think that, but....

A lot of CP's industrial switching is now done directionally, and TTC is served from the east, not west. 4572 may need to travel to Agincourt first before it can be delivered to Hillcrest.

So, we're near the end of the year and there's still buses on the 505. So sick of it.
I often see three 505 buses pass me on Broadview while waiting for the now infrequent and badly spaced 504B. Be careful what you wish for! :)

When they start the February construction at the Roncesvalles/Queen/King/Queensway and the 501/504 bustitutation, that should free up about 20 streetcars in AM peak. With the October 504/514 service cut, that freed up 8 vehicles, and another 8 are freed up with the January change of 503 back to buses.

So the 18 cars required to restore streetcars to 505 might be feasible in February (replacing 27 buses). Or will we see 12 cars return to 511? There's also 7 (or more?) cars required on 502, and they are still missing 4 cars on 506, with some AM peak buses still running.

Both routes quite possibly could have Flexities in the mix as well

501 is next. It's supposed to get 34 Flexitys according to the 2017 TTC plan. It currently has 42 cars ... with about ¼ bustituted in February ... probably needs about 24 Flexities for complete conversion while construction is going on. Should be about 7 Flexities available from 504. So might only need about 17 more Flexity cars above what they are putting out currently to completely convert 501.

We could see 501 completely converted on weekdays before winter ends. Presumably 505 or 511 (which should require 11 Flexities).

The amount of weekday 501 Flexities is about the same as the current amount of CLRVs ( 35 CLRVs ), but it starts officially in January.

When they start rolling out to a new route, they use the old level until the route is fully (or almost fully) converted, and then drop to the new level.

The best example is 512, which had 24 CLRVs through 2017, even though they started getting weekday Flexity's in late 2017. By summer 2018, the service summary was showing a mix of Flexity and CLRV cars, but still had 24 cars. And then after Labour Day 2018, they fully converted, and dropped from 24 cars to 19 cars.

The current amount of CLRVs out on 501 is 35? Looks like 40 CLRVs, 2 ALRVs, and one or 2 buses last week in AM peak. Current schedule says 42 cars (presumably the buses were standby or relieving to fill gaps).

If they are dropping it to 35 in January, then that's a big service cut, unless they get a lot of Flexitys in service.

4514 is tracking

4513 GPS has it all over the place and been that way since its first test. Was out last night.

4512 was an in service 501 and now the GPS has it out in the lake. Must have some issues to keep it in the service bay over 2 days before doing an in service test
