Transit Fantasy Maps

Yeah, the map does look like it was ripped off for sure. But whatever, I have contacted the contact listed on the bottom of her press release on behalf of SOS and asked for a meeting with her. There are a few problems with this plan that I want to see addressed (mainly DRL Eglinton to Eglinton, that's a no-brainer). I'll keep you posted.

I find Thomson's assertion that the LRT system "creates concrete wastelands" a little strange.

You should watch her odd YouTube video on the subject, complete with a rendition of Big Yellow Taxi ("Paved paradise and put up a parking lot") playing in the background. Um...huh? The "paradise" we speak of is apparently the yellow diving lines that are currently on the road?

I knew I had seen this map before! In my opinion, Sarah Thomson has plagiarized Miguel Syyap, ripped right off of the Transit Toronto website. Look at Miguel's map:
Sarah Thomson should fess up to stealing another person's vision and work and apologize!

See I too knew right away that I had seen that before, albeit it came from a different source website: Wikipedia.

Looks like her team scraped together elements directly off Wiki (explaining the routing she chose for Kennedy-SCC vs. using Danforth Road).

Gweed perhaps Pape-Don Mills/Eglinton is a phase two project for her. I too am interested to know more about her plans. Best of luck.

I notice now that the Bloor-Danforth line looks EXACTLY the same on the two maps, most notably the curve at SCC. The station labels also have the exact same font, position and orientation.

Both maps name the subway line "Eglinton West" even though the line isn't limited to Eglinton West on either map.

The few stations that are different between the maps have their name written in a different font, while the rest are exactly the same.

She should really have gotten someone to make her a map rather than plagiarize someone else's work. Did she/they really think no one would notice? It does damage her credibility somewhat. I hope another, more likely candidate steals her subway thunder by proposing something similar (I'm looking at you Smitherman).

Or proposes our plan, hahaha. When you compare the 1st version of Move Toronto to what she proposed, our plan is definitely better, from an extremely pro-subway perspective.

I don't think most people would even see much difference between her plan and ours. As I said before, they are very very similar. Only things missing are Bloor to Sherway, Sheppard to Downsview, and the Yonge and Spadina extensions beyond the city limits.

The only wierd thing about the comparison of her plan to any other map is the removal of Vaughan Corporate Center. I wonder if that was intentional.

Maybe because VCC is not a part of City of Toronto and she's winkingly reaching out to the countless residents here that are opposed to such pork-barrel largesse, which remember was pushed through by the then in-power Provinical Finance Minister whom also happens to be the MPP of Vaughan. Coincidence?

Are we even sure she is proposing to scrap subway expansion north of Steeles? Perhaps she is just ignoring it - it's up to the province and York region to figure out subways beyond Steeles.

What I find weird about the whole thing is changing the colour of the Yonge line. Why do that? Everyone knows it's yellow.

lol...

well, it only makes sense that someone running for mayor of Toronto would limit the boundaries of the subway map to the edges of the city they would be in charge of. But really, why argue about this and other small details? What I am curious about is why such a vast and thriving metropolitain are such as the GTA has been stuck with such a limited and deficient subway system and has failed to make ongoing investments in its expansion? (Other than Sheppard which might be categorized as a pet project rather than a useful addition to the system) Especially now that Toronto is experiencing this ongoing boom of condo construction and increased densities of population, a "completed" and wide reaching subway system with a direct link to the airport is more important than ever. We have a lot of catching up to do and its a shame that political fighting and misguided priorities will continue to delay what this city truely needs and deserves...
