Toronto Origami Lofts Condos | 22.55m | 7s | Symmetry | Teeple Architects

^^ Except for the two penthouse levels, IMO.

The concept is that of a glass core (the PH and retail levels) wrapped in a wild zinc robe. We attempted schemes where the cladding continued
on to the PH levels but it didn't provide the necessary contrast to the carefully crafted vertical zinc slots.

Yes indeed I saw an origami lofts somewhere before....;)

I agree with condovo==a sharp bold outline to the top but hey, gotta sell those PH units with a terrace and appease the nimbies by making it look less tall, right?

I do wonder though if the CC owners will now sell, hoping they can get additional density for their site?

How did the community meeting go symmetry?

The only thing left...is it an @renderpornstar?

it was offered according to symmetry but they didn't want it.

Have no fear, it doesn't include Cheery Cola's. It was offered but a neighborhood full of condos with sanitised retail at grade does not a neighborhood make.

If it was supposed to mimic a building being wrapped in a robe, why would the top two levels be set back enough to create full terraces? That totally ruins the supposedly desired effect.

I don't believe it does. We ran more than a dozen test schemes and worked with recommended planning criteria.
Doesn't have the same impact without the glass crown.

Looks cool. That has to be the largest address numbers to adorn any building!
I thought it was going to stretch the entire block on Bathurst, instead of stretching more across Wolseley Steet.
There's no mechanical penthouse? Or maybe because the building is so small the mechanical only takes up a portion of the top level of residential.
I also agree that the top two levels is a little week and should continue the origami theme. Possibly the parapet should be sloped to create a more dynamic top.

This is exactly the type of building that Toronto needs more of. These should be going up everywhere replacing those mutilated 50's boxes and stripmalls.

It's a small, boutique project. It's the type of fine grain infill I believe is lacking in the core. The small lot size informs the sculpted design.

Agreed - this is great news! Maybe this will motivate someone to do something similar with that Barbershop and Voltaire eyesore just to the south of this.

I agree with you that the effect is stronger as presented. The zinc cladding feels like an added layer this way, like a decorative carapace. If the cladding totally engulfed the building it would just feel like, well like cladding. Keep it as is.
