I noticed yesterday that the fountains in Sherborne Common have been shored up with 2x4s. I guess there must be some risk of them shifting or cracking during the excavation.

Wrong guess! The metal edging on the water channel of the `water feature` was coming loose. WT had to do repairs and the wood is to hold the metal to the concrete while the Crazy Glue dries.
