Toronto East Harbour Transit Hub | 14.35m | 1s | Metrolinx

It looks like the parametric louvers flanking the station have been valued engineered out of the plans LOL

As much as I was unsure about the look of them, this iteration looks cheaper than ever.

You didn't actually expect more from this cheap burg, did you?
I did. I still do.

I get the idea of "the cheapening" and we've all seen it applied in this city many times over. Sometimes it's just the way things go - it's more expensive than ever to erect a cool building the days and I grasp the fact that even colossal budgets aren't always capable of scaling the heights needed to create a truly remarkable site. That doesn't stop me from advocating for us to "do better."

It's like mechanically apologizing for our shabby public realm simply because we lack the imagination and daring to do anything about it - or that it's too costly and we need to spend the money on other things. I don't want to bash Toronto, either. I don't like to indulge in that kind of negativity, as if mediocrity and complacency are lowly attributes enmeshed in our civic DNA - it's pointless. I'd rather we simply try harder to slowly but surely bring up the calibre of our public spaces - 'cos we ought to.

Of course, this is Metrolinx doing the cheapening here. But this is supposed to be a major transit hub. Make it look interesting at least!

Hmmmm. It has all the charm of an entrance to a big box store.

Costco actually. They should have included the shopping carts and renderpeople with render hotdogs. Maybe they can rename this the Costco Cadillac Fairview station.

Thank the lord for that, considering it looked as charming as a fish skeleton picked clean - imagine spending the money on that and still ended up with this pile.

The equivalent exchange station on the west, Exhibition, is following through on a grand, creative design. I don’t see why they’re mailing it in on East Harbour.

Late procurement, changes in the focus of the development (office/commercial to residential); and I am sure entire project is overrun.

The Province is paying for Exhibition - Cadillac Fairview is paying for East Harbour, from my understanding.

Oh boy here we go...AtkinsRealis (aka SNC Lavalin). I'm sure we're going to be in for some nice unfortunate bungle of surprises now.

For now, i'm just going to ignore the renders of the sterileness of this station before I get irate with the lack of ambition being displayed by Metrolinx here.
This is the first time I can recall AtkinsRealis getting a Metrolinx contract - anyone else recall them getting work in the GTA in general in the last decade?
