Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

If it were 1950 again, they probably would. However, its 2014, no can do.

If Mississauga can expropriate houses to widen a street (Britannia through Streetsville), there is no reason why Toronto cannot expropriate homes to build the LRT.

the closer the houses are together and the more of them and the more expensive the value (570k+) the less expropriation makes sense.

If finances are the only question then I'm sure the benefits of a cheaper grade separated Eglinton West outweigh the costs of expropriation.

Sure their owners would miss them, but the option could at least be considered. It sounds callous, but when the good option was removed because of a stupid bureaucrat somewhere at City Hall, the option to restore it shouldn't be entirely discounted.

Allowing vacant land and a potential transit ROW to be developed as townhouses in a corridor that has had either LRT or subway either under construction, planned, or proposed for decades is unbelievably, shockingly dumb. Friggin' townhouses. Oh man. How do these townhouses fit into Transit City? How do they fit into the Avenues plan? The City of Toronto really needs to get its act together. This is just pathetic.

The tunnels are on time so any hold up at Caledonia was insignificant. Completed tunnels will remain empty for a long time while they build the stations.

A pretty cool time to be a transit geek in Toronto with two lines underway at the same time. Let's hope there's something being built once Spadina and Eglinton are done.

And considering one line is 19km long on a major street and will be a major new addition to our system, this is more than has been under construction for most of many of our lives in Toronto, and more than many other North American cities.
