Someone more familiar with digging up historical photos might be able to come up with one or more for this particular site?!

Lots of historic photos and maps further up this very thread. For many years it was Bayside Park. Here's a map I had not seen before - just to show that Toronto has had transit plans (if not transit action) for over 100 years!

What is the history of this site---Before it became just another parking lot?
It used to be lake Ontario up to 1850's until trains arrived. Everything south of Front St and The Esplanade was water, with docks being built out for ships to load/unload cargo.

Once the trains arrived, they need an area to the point the waterfront edge started to be fill in to where it is today for yards and stations as well industries.

Surprised that map doesn't show the plan DRL that was approved in 1910.
 
Found these today. I’m teaching myself to use an iPad so by no means am I good at this yet, but fun just the same.

The areas in the red circle are where the CIBC project is. These photos are from 1929/1930.

And A few more. Top image is a drawing of the properties affected by the 1904 fire. Bottom image is a drawing of the Toronto Rail Viaduct 1913. The area in red is the CIBC site. The drawing indicates “pork”. Perhaps that was a proposed location of the abitoir that was at Bathurst.

Last few, top is a view south from north of front and bay, red circle is the CIBC site.
Next is the Yonge Street warf looking North, 1920. Last is looking North from the harbour from the foot of York 1929.

CRANE! I was away for a couple of days and this morning I look to find two giant holes, and what looks like the base of a tower crane. The white tower crane base is to the left of the portable orange lift crane in the lower left of the photo

I do not recall that we gave you permission to take a couple of days off! Thanks for your great, and usually timely. reports and photos!!
 
They're fully excavated on that side already? It only looks to be two parking levels deep at that point to me, but maybe it's hard to tell for sure from that angle.
 
Out of curiosity, has it been fully confirmed that the Toronto Coach Terminal will be moving here as well? Or is this just going to be for the GO buses?

Last I heard was it was in the final stages of discussion and the TTC (who own the Coach Terminal) are looking at future uses for that site.

There was a public design charrette thingy for the terminal a few weeks back.

I'm a little confused as well. I have no experience in this, but I would think an extra level of parking would be worth it as revenue. Having paid public parking close to the core AND next to an arena, it would be profitable to add more parking for the public? You get to jack up the rates during game nights and charge high prices during the day.
