It's not small. It's just short compared to the towers built in the last ten years. It's a functional, high end building. I wouldn't want an expanded Eaton Centre. As much as I like the Eaton Centre, it's a relic from past planning rationale. The century old warehouse blocks and street grid washed away to build the Eaton Centre would probably be as valuable a resource to the city as the Eaton Centre. (and a lot cooler from the pedestrian's point of view) Think of a walkable, oversized Distillery District with glass office towers seamlessly integrated with solid, brick warehouses.

Which is unfortunate, since the current building really is unique and stands out from the rest of the crowd the way it is right now. This re-clad is going to be a mess, and I was hoping it slipped of H&R's radar.

Just want to say, I completely, wholeheartedly, unambiguously and without reservation, agree with the above statement.

The only things wrong w/Atrium were the street-level exterior/streetscape and the food court was always a fail for me.
 
At this rate I dont think there's one building in this city that will escape the re-cladding with garbage materials trend, regardless of whether the re-clad is needed or not.

This is a prime example of a building that doesnt need a re-clad, but for whatever reason it's going through one. One that will be inherently many times worse.
 
I suppose the destruction isn't permanent and the glass can be restored to its former look a few decades from now.
