Toronto 540 King West | 50.66m | 15s | Allied | Hariri Pontarini

Significant improvement. This is on my street and I did not like the original design at all. I was all NIMBY on that. I’m totally ok with this now. Amazing how the podium changes everything.

This is quickly becoming the “King West Style”.

Or the New York State Museum in Albany.

Was never a fan of the Waterloo library. It’s striking from the exterior but the interior is dark and dreary, especially on the upper floors.

Anybody know the status of this project? Have any units been sold? Any idea of when construction is expected to commence?

The Pizza Pizza is closed but Early Mercy next door has a least that expires Dec 31st. I’m guessing they won’t be getting much use of a nightclub. Maybe they’re shutting down early.

I’ve been told Jacobs is closing soon.

Dana Porter was the no-nonsense, get stuff done, hunker down and study library at UW. The opposite of the Davis Centre. The interiors at DP are dated and could use a freshening up.

Anyone know if/when construction will start for this building?

The former Pizza Pizza space, part of this development, has 'For Rent' signs posted on it - so construction start may not be for a while, at least until market conditions clarify a bit.

The good news is that both developers in this joint venture project, Allied and Great Gulf, have deep pockets, so financial issues should not be a concern.

Also, after receiving council approval earlier this year, no other interested parties in the community appear to have appealed the City's approval to LPAT. Searches of the City's Application Information Centre for LPAT appeals on both 540 and 540 King Street West returns 'Application Not Found' messages.

Allied does not yet have this in their leasing program from what I can see, and Great Gulf have not yet started sales on the residential component. They won't be starting construction on this for awhile yet.

For some reason Allied had this down for 2022 completion in their quarterly report from the end of June. May investor presentation said 2023. Sounds like they're confused about their own timeline.

I really hope this isn't renderporn and that they use gold-tinted glass or any other variation with a warmer hue (rather than standard blue glass)
