hope is canadian tire :p
Sorry, there's nowhere near enough retail space in this building for a Canadian Tire.

Formally, an amendment to change to a partial closure of York Street now instead of full. More interestingly, includes construction schedule of January 8, 2019 to February 27, 2020.

Even partially closing down York will be a new nightmare for this city. The fact that this is all to build a pseudo-PATH connection that will basically only serve ICE condo residents and 16 York employees at lunch, is even worse. If this was actually a "key objective" first identified in 1996, you'd think it would be better designed to fit into the larger system.

Like I've said in other posts, yes, the PATH is very poorly designed down here bumping up and down and back, and the York Street closure should have been timed to occur during the Gardiner rebuild in the area when fewer people were avoiding the street anyway.

It's all a bad idea.

do you know what is the plan to rebuilt the central gardiner? i hope it can be tore down and go underneath

Lanterra should have done what Menkes did. Harbour Plaza already has a working Path and retail! Since Lanterra built both Maple Leaf Square and Ice, an elevated solution should have been proposed between the two buildings to make a Path network - therefore eliminating any lengthy road closures. If the Path is supposed to end up in the Longos at Maple Leaf Square, you would still have to go up 2 escalators and snake through Maple Leaf Square to get to the ACC - it's faster just to walk across the street. Poorly planned on Lanterra's part I'd say.

The fastest way from Union from 16 York is going to be to cross the street into the Southcore buildings and enter through that PATH connection - the cut through longos is going to be significantly longer.

Exactly, it should have been a bridge between Maple Leaf Square and 16 York/Ïce.

And @luckyshi, just to be clear, is there no plan to remove the central Gardiner. The plan is to keep the Gardiner up in the air between Exhibition Place and Jarvis Street. East of Jarvis, it's going to be rebuilt narrower, but it's still staying up in the air there too. If you want to learn about and discuss it more, please look for the Gardiner Expressway thread(s) in the Transportation section of the Forum.
