The hype is over in the Real Estate subforum, linked two posts above.
As you have read, Ed and I were at the groundbreaking event for Ãce held across the street in the recently opened Maple Leaf Square, built by the same development team as Ãce.
The event was held to thank both investors in the new complex and the real estate brokers who moved the units. There was a Nordic-nibbles themed dinner to be had, and a jazz ensemble was there to fill with atrium with music. While the complex was marketed as an outpost of Scandinavian coolness architecturally speaking, the fishier bites weren't being gobbled down as quickly as the Swedish meatballs or a "Nordic" hot roast beef sandwich, the recipe for which escapes me now, but which really was tasty.
Presentations by Lanterra and Cadillac Fairview's staff were all about the sales success of the project, and the projected returns for the purchasers in the years ahead. While the striking architecture was briefly mentioned, neither architectAlliance nor Munge Leung were in attendance, nor did they rate a mention. Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone, who helped steer the zoning through City Hall, was on hand to thank Lanterra and Cadillac Fairview for their forward thinking and city building in bringing this project to fruition. Much attention was paid to the green roof that is coming as part of the podium of Ãce.
