St Lawrence Market

Wellington Street East. After years of postponements while hydro, water , gas and telecom conduits and vaults were rebuilt, the City has suddenly (and with no consultation) decided NOT to rebuild the street and TTC tracks this fall. The work will, apparently, now start in April 2021. So, yet another summer of construction, noise, dust and mess to look forward to next year.

What a complete S#@t Show!

Stupid, wasteful nonsense.

Heritage lighting of the St James Cathedral. Latest word is that the lighting project is continuing to (slowly) move towards completion and they hope to have it up and running "In September". From the semi-final testing I saw a few weeks ago, it will REALLY be worth the wait. Next building in St Lawrence to be lit properly will be Young People's Theatre on Front and the lighting on St Lawrence Hall is, apparently, being 'upgraded'. All from Section 37 funds.

Wellington is very frustruting. It's ridiculous how long it's taking.

The city's road construction program is huge for the downtown area this year though, if it's any consolation prize. They probably are redoing more streets this year than any year in the last decade.
They are replacing the gas line on this pass. I’m not sure what else or what is next or when.

They are going to widen the sidewalk on the north side, repave and plant trees, but they are delaying that part of the project until next year since this year has been hard enough on the restaurants on the north side of the street.

The Enbridge crew, when they finish at the Yonge-Scott end of the street, will be moving (have in fact moved) to the Leader Lane to Market St block to relocate another main. They are supposed to be clear by mid-JULY. As you say, the next (final) stage is the City and TTC coming in, widening sidewalks, fixing the sidewalk and making it wider at Church/Front/Wellington and planting trees etc. The 'excuse" for this being moved to 2021 a few weeks ago (over the strong objections of the St Lawrence Neighbourhood Assn) was that they will set up patios for 6 weeks or so (after some temporary sidewalk repairs?) but the real problem is apparently that (after working on it for 6+ years!) the City tender is not yet fully prepared. Having a temporary patio on a VERY messy street for 6+ weeks in 2020 is hardly going to help the restaurants much and means they will have a very short patio season (on a much nicer street) in 2021 as the project is set to run from April 1 through July next year. When done the street will look great but .... the SLNA would much have preferred to stick to the (already much delayed) plan and start road and sidewalk and TTC work in August 2020 and do 'finishing touches early in 2021 season)
