SmartTrack (Proposed)

Wasn't this guy a few days ago saying he didn't know of any report. Now he's saying he can't comment because the report isn't complete yet. Also what new info can they possibly have to even remotely justify this 5 billion dollar boondoggle. I doubt even making fares free can justify this Eglinton leg.

No money for refugees the CPC tries to scare us into believing but money (extra 4 BILLION)for smart track?!?! Genius... SMH

We had the solution 4 years ago. Connect the SRT to a grade-separated Eglinton line. A few kinks were left to be sorted out, and that was left to TTC (Stintz) and Metrolinx (& MTO Minister Murray).

The Scarborough Subway and the SmartTrack both owe their existences to the decision to cancel this Eglinton-Scarborough line.

Call it penny wise and pound foolish. For saving a few hundred million, we are on the way to spending maybe $10B extra.

Im hoping both reports come out at the same time with this solution being presented. The connection of the two lines have been discussed here but not very much anywhere else so it could still come off as a fresh idea and save Torys face.

It's wayyyy too late to discuss grade separating Eglinton east.

At first, I thought what you said about Eglinton east was ridiculous. I eventually came around to believing that what you're proposing is the ideal solution. But at this point, much of the benefit of sticking with Skytrain are gone.

1) The tunneling is at an advanced stage, done with the wider diameter required for the LRT, so there are no longer any cost savings associated switching to skytrain and the smaller bores
2) The LRT design work has reached a stage where the sunk costs are probably significant, including the EAs which would likely have to be redone.

The media spinning has already begun, he admitted that the $8 billion price tag he put on Smarttrack was "just an estimate" without the professionals looking at the true cost. Of course all of us already knew that, but to most Torontonians who are out of the loop with these affairs this will be news to them.

The next couple of days are going to be an entertaining soap opera on the Smarttrack file.

Its strange that it is too late, yet it is still the least expensive option - even if you consider all the extras that need to be paid to change the current contract part way through. The Province and City Council made the decisions that put us on this path to spend extra Billions to achieve a poorer result.

Extra spending to achieve poor result? Grade separation is more expensive, not less expensive. Not sure why you'd suggest otherwise - makes me question anything you've said, if you think that!

Not sure what this has to do with Tory's DumberTrack waste of money.
