Scott Pilgrim film takes on Toronto!

Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino also saw "Scott Pilgrim" and effectively creamed their jeans.

Smith says, "That movie is great. It's spellbinding and nobody is going to understand what the f--- just hit them. I would be hard-pressed to say, 'he's bringing a comic book to life!' but he is bringing a comic book to life."

so the elites of the film industry are in love. this certainly bodes well.

metric never really tickled me in my special places but i think their involvement in the film is cool. ironic that the clash at demonhead, the band that sings this song in the film, are "montreal art rockers"!

the first poster has been released! http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/03/17/scott-pilgrim-poster/

here's a REALLY old interview i found: http://www.chud.com/articles/articl...EW-BRYAN-LEE-OMALLEY-SCOTT-PILGRIM/Page1.html

here's some of the more toronto-centric tidbits:

Q: You met with Edgar Wright and took him on a tour of Toronto. What was he like?

O'Malley: It was good. He's normal, down to Earth; he's kind of a nerdy guy. Other than being on his phone and his Blackberry every second of the day, but that's because he's a director, I guess. I took him to this weird movie store in Toronto and he bought 200 dollars worth of weird movies. He wanted to see all the spots I reference in the books. And the screenwriter Michael Bacall was there too.

tired of barry's paltry postings regarding scott pilgrim? well this one is going to be formidable. informative, even.

- in addition to releasing the new book's cover, Oni Press released a sizeable statement and a tidbit of early art: http://www.onipress.com/blog/?p=1378

- in slightly older, but still cool news, Toronto Life recently made a list: the top 50 reasons to love T.O. in 2009. Scott Pilgrim is number 24:

No. 24
A graphic novel set in the Dufferin Mall is getting the Hollywood treatment

Michael Cera’s superpowers, deployed to devastating effect in Arrested Development and last year’s Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, include a squirmy charm and an adorably awkward yearning to be an adult. Or at least get laid. In the studio adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel Scott Pilgrim, Cera has returned home (he’s a Brampton boy) to play the titular slacker Toronto musician. O’Malley’s comic series, a mash-up of manga, video games and indie rock, isn’t set in Metropolis or Gotham but in a very recognizable T.O.: Lee’s Palace, Casa Loma and the Dufferin Mall loom in the black-and-white backgrounds, and the story has the sweet adolescent angst of a Hidden Cameras song. In the end, our hometown hero gets the girl.—Jason McBride

AND

- a shout out from mr. wright after watching "Kick-Ass":

"Toronto peeps. Was heartened in Kickass to see a scene outside the Scotia Bank where I spent many Sunday afternoons watching summer movies."

indeed, a good day for information.
