Rob Ford's Toronto

Police have also interviewed people involved in a boozy St. Patrick’s Day 2012 incident involving Ford at the Bier Markt pub.

Does anyone know what went down at the Bier Market on st.Patty's day?

Basically the same situation as the Danforth. Robbie got hammered and was stumbling around the Esplanade and was eventually corralled by his staff and escorted out of the Bier Market. A few photos were taken and apparently one woman approached him and said 'you're the worst mayor ever!" and he -- with his eyes half-closed -- responded, 'I know but I try" then kissed her on the forehead.

You know, standard Mayor stuff.

Ford Nation (most likely) on the attack: http://j-source.ca/article/notice-hearing-ontario-press-council

The Ontario Press Council will hold two hearings in response to complaints it has received relating to two newspaper publications:

1. An article published by the Toronto Star, dated May 16th, 2013 entitled “Rob Ford in ‘crack cocaine’ video scandalâ€

2. An article published by the Globe and Mail, dated May 25th, 2013 entitled “Globe investigation: The Ford family’s history with drug dealingâ€

The video needs to come out NOW!!

Pretty laughable stuff, and there is a great likelihood that it will blow up in their faces.

“The council panel will determine whether the articles were in the public interest.â€

On what planet is evidence that a 'law and order' Mayor is a consumer of crack cocaine, and spends his off hours consorting with drug dealers and gang bangers, not considered to be in the 'public interest'?

“whether the newspapers made adequate efforts to verify the accuracy of the allegationsâ€

Um, that’s why they were published. Ie. they are true. And it’s why the Ford’s have never made a peep about suing either paper.

The complainants are going to get their asses kicked all over the lot if the Star and the Globe go into detail about the kinds of fact checking that reporters have to go through to get these stories past their editors.

“and if the Fords were given a proper chance to respond.â€

Yeah, like 50 or 60 times.

There's more to it than that. Most of this is anecdotal, but the stories I've heard usually describe Rob, Doug, and the rest of their entourage doing lines in the back room (possibly off of a naked woman) and generally acting like out-of-control goofs until they got the boot.

St. Paddy's Day, Ford with senior staffer Earl Provost in background, taken at Front and Church, a block away from the Bier Markt:

From The Star:
Inside the Bier Markt, according to restaurant staff and a Ford staffer, Ford and his small group went into a private room. They appeared intoxicated and were rambunctious. The restaurant staffer told the Star Ford was “incoherent” and “hammered.” Bier Markt owner Robert Medal said this was untrue and called Ford “an exemplary guest.”

At one point, Ford ventured onto the dance floor. The DJ who worked that night told the Dean Blundell radio show the mayor was fighting and carrying on "like an idiot.” He was then escorted out by security. Restaurant staff say he was asked to leave after “storming the dance floor.”

A senior staffer with Ford told the Star that Ford was escorted out by his own staff and some restaurant staff. The staffer said the mayor made another leap for the dance floor, then was told to leave and he walked out.

(Ford is a dancing machine!)

In a letter dated last Friday, the council invited the mayor to lodge a complaint so that he can make submissions to the Star hearing.

Should he choose to participate, the hearing would provide a public forum for the mayor to comprehensively refute the claims made in the story, which describes a video appearing to show Ford smoking crack cocaine and making racist and homophobic remarks.

[...]

Doug Ford has also been invited to file a complaint to participate in that hearing, according to the press council’s letter.

[...]

The hearings will not look into the truth of the allegations, only whether they were responsibly reported.

“We’re not here to determine truth. We’re here to determine if people in a news organization followed process and proper journalistic procedures and ethical concerns were considered,” said Ontario Press Council Executive Director Don McCurdy.

Developing: A promising lead is being followed regarding a person who's first name is all that I know right now. Mike.

We might not be looking for that video if this pans out. That video wasn't documenting the first or last time that Ford was stupid enough to smoke crack around people who could film him.

I don't get it. Is this a joke? How do you know this info if the public doesn't know it?
