Macford: A Tragical Historie of York 2010 - 2014

macford.jpg

After a praised king is murdered in uncertain circumstances, a charismatic leader is elected to wear the weighty mantle. His reign is marked by an untrustworthy brother, selfless wife, devoted friend, and many more comic and tragic characters. When addiction threatens to destroy his legacy, Macford's actions change the course of York's history forever. Macford is a five act Shakespearean tragedy following the rise, fall, and cult of personality surrounding a larger-than-life monarch. End-of-act illustrations by NemoNova express a graphic disharmony of York. Bob Dundas is a general labourer by day, and writer by night. He has a penchant for Indian cuisine, and Shakespeare’s histories. Dundas’s past work includes teaching children with learning disabilities, and stocking grocery shelves.

kind of a little aside...

remember the guy (elton macdonald) that dug that mystery tunnel, that doug ended up helping with?
He [boko, elton's boss] did not go immediately to police, but instead sought out an intermediary—someone who could give him assurances this was not a criminal matter, and that Elton would not be charged. He reached out, without success, to Toronto Mayor John Tory, then to former mayor and current city councillor Rob Ford. Next, he turned to Ford’s older brother Doug, himself a former Toronto city councillor, and an acquaintance.

According to Boko’s account, he explained his predicament to Ford at the latter’s private business offices at Deco Labels and Tags. Ford, now a private businessman, told him he knew just whom to call, and left the room. Minutes later, Ford returned and informed him that whoever was behind the tunnel was unlikely to face charges. But he went on to say it was Boko’s civic duty to inform authorities, who were in the midst of an expensive investigation to track down the mystery digger. Boko says Ford asked him if he’d object to his inviting police to speak to him at Deco Labels. In a few minutes, Boko was in conference with investigators. “They told me not to talk to no one—not even Elton,” he says.

well... elton was friends with kwasi, the guy that was killed by police, but that was also wanted for the murder of two of the gang members from project traveller.
In July, a friend died in a shootout with police. Kwasi Skene-Peters, 21, was himself wanted in the shooting deaths of two men. His violent end after a troubled life plunged McDonald into mourning.

It was just that kind of life McDonald himself has, for the most part, managed to escape.

not sure if i should post this here or in the john tory thread...

Test drilling for Scarborough Subway’s McCowan route now underway
Machines begin to move dirt from boreholes on Danforth Road
The shouting still isn’t over on whether the Scarborough Subway should be built at all, despite what De Baeremaeker, Mayor John Tory, or Scarborough’s MPPs have said.

But the basic route for the thing has been decided, though unofficially: it’s going up McCowan Road, as De Baeremaeker and other supporters always thought it would.

“There’s an emerging direction with McCowan,” Hilary Holden, from the city’s transportation planning department, said standing by a drilling rig in front of a bungalow opposite Makinac Crescent.

“Practicalities suggest McCowan is more promising.”

Officially, three extension routes, the McCowan, Midland and Bellamy, remain in contention, but the boreholes demonstrate the department’s mind is made up.

It’s not test-drilling the other two corridors, looking for groundwater layers, boulders, and which mix of clay, gravel and silt tunnel borers would go through.

It has only drilled the McCowan route and areas common to all three - Kennedy Station, Scarborough Town Centre, and McCowan north of Highway 401.
