Rob Ford's Toronto

What I can't understand about SAL is how she can defend such a fervent bigot given that she's gay. Ford has ever more blatantly attacked the gay community and by extension her right to being herself in society without being subjected to judgement and ridicule. Maybe she could look away when he at least tried to leave homophobia to ambiguity but not now. Her continued support makes no sense.

Watch Django Unchained and focus on the Samuel Jackson character. People like her (and him) exist in every discriminated community, shockingly.

Kat: Interesting thoughts on reaching page 3000...and that 2000 was reached on November 11,2013 - just
over three months ago...Over 45,000 posts total and more than 4,278,000 views...Impressive!

Are these figures a record for a Internet forum or topic? Is there any way of finding out?

Over time "RF's Toronto" has become a very interesting run...LI MIKE

I'm pretty sure there are forums out there that have thousands of posts per day - never mind per 3 months

Idiotic.
I guess it's supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek?
I mean, does a real journalist actually think Google hits are an indicator of significance? Isn't it obvious why Rob Ford pulls up so many more google hits than Pierre Trudeau, who died before it was invented? Them's some real solid research skillz, Stroebel.

Just superficial, pointless, filler.
I'm annoyed at myself for even giving them the page view. Don't make the same mistake.

I believe that may be a relatively common attitude among some of the more 'progressive' Conservatives. You might find a parallel among some of the more open minded well heeled southerners 50ish years ago, that 'I don't have any problem with most [African Americans] but those few fighting for equality really need to not be so uppity.' 'I don't mind that they are gay, but why the hell do they need to be so PUBLIC about it, and rub it in my face like that...' (when it's so clear I'd like it rubbed THIS way.)
The attitudes as typical from the 1950's/60's are commonly used but it goes further. Go back to "conservatives"/fundamentalists since Puritan times for the English for recent history. The most famous is Victorian influences, you can do anything in private, but not in public. There was a fancy for nipple rings in that era.

I don't know how you can compare "Stephen" with SAL. True discrimination comes from ignorance and fear, not just in the "antagonist" but also the "protagonist", especially in arguments as such as this one.

I find it interesting that Victorians are prudish on the outside but free on the inside, just like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

One of the videos got about 10k views, the other much less. Compared to the 400k+ Steak Queen video, you get a feeling that this will be a huge flop.

I can only imagine how few people tuned into the SunTV show. These guys really overestimate the level of civic engagement among Ford Nation.

Her fear of being someone just "normal" is what fuels her heterophobia; I would not be surprised by the depths of her loathings to be excepted. Remember, Dougie has divided "gays" into "good gays" and "bad gays" depending of they want to run up and down the street "buck naked"... or it could just be that "streets are for cars". Craving acceptance will always over ride our self worth, and allow insecurities to take charge in the end.

I don't entirely agree that she fears being 'normal'. She seems like someone who considers being conservative the only rational, normal position to take, and anyone who isn't is delusional ('socialist Silly Hall').

Her sexuality only enters into it when she talks about acceptance and identifying homophobia (still something of an uphill slog for Sun readers).

I suppose she falls into Doug's good gays category: not in-your-face, doesn't demand 'special treatment', attends Pride as a fully clothed spectator.
