Rob Ford's Toronto

What's wrong with Denzil Minnan-Wong? He was the guy leading the charge to strip Ford of his powers. Actually looking almost admirable for once. Saw him making a comment on the news tonight and he seemed to want to stoke this fight with the premier. Ever since they were press-conferencing together during the ice storm Minnan-Wong seems to be back in his natural spot poking his head out from behind the bully to take digs at other people.

He's probably believing the press that Ford will get re-elected in a landslide...

Minnan-Wong has always been a big weasel.

He should be careful - he only won his seat by 13% of the vote. I would not call that a safe margin if he has aligned himself with Ford this time around - especially if things go south of for the Fords in a bigger (HANDCUFF) type of way.

I wouldn't get TOO excited. The article does say "The defence may have already sufficiently reviewed the evidence and determined there isn’t a strong prosecution case. Or both sides could reach a plea bargain deal to avert a trial, Struthers added."
edit: though, I suppose if there's no trial then the video might get leaked if it's not needed anymore as evidence for the other trials?

Ideally, it would be released around October 24th, just days before voting. The Sun would put it on the back page, though.

The Sun could bury it in Timbuktu, it wouldn't matter. With the internet, that thing will go viral in minutes.

eta: But honestly it's not going to sway the Ford voters. Literally nothing will. He could publicly admit to everything and go to jail and they would be screaming his innocence and about how great of a mayor he was (with a little bit of "how come those thieving Lieberals weren't sent to jail for stealing our money!" thrown in). It's bullshit, but it's the reality of the situation.

The Auditor Generals report on the Gas Plant was much more damning than the Ford video and it did not have a large effect. Much of it was known already - the only new thing was that the cost was about 3 or 4 times what the Liberals said (about the same as what the Tories estimated) and the fact that it appeared that Oakville would not change the zoning for the land, in which case the cancellation penalty would have been close to zero - but the Liberals decided that it was preferable to pay the huge penalty rather than trust that the contract language requiring no compensation, but allow TransCanada Corp. to make some political noise.
