OK, some photos documenting changes that have been happening in the distillery district the past couple of months... what's been going down is literally what was teared down - old buildings which, in their final incarnation, consecutively housed the production offices of countless movies of the week and low-budget TV series. There were other low-rise structures too, including a dingy shelter for street folks; not too long ago the area was hooker central as well, especially during the nocturnal hours. Back then very few people lived in the distillery district and there was a lot more rough and tumble warehouse and shop stuff going on. Used to rent studio space in a building on Mill St. (a former trucking terminal which was demolished some years back as part of the grand plan to revitalize the whole area). All this is in preparation for the Commonwealth games, but after that's come and gone the facilities will be repurposed for your usual mix of commercial and residential.

Finally, another shot from yesterday - view from Queen St. where it crosses the Don, looking south. Cheap, low-grade film warehouses (generally carpentry and paint shops) there as well, along with rusty car lots. Amazing how quickly things are changing up. Densification / infill is transforming much of the centre core and it's spreading outwards.

I live near the Donalda Golf Club but have never gone through the area until today. Hard to believe what's in your backyard until you open your eyes for a good look.

Don Mills on the left , York Mills just out of the picture at the top. Most of these building's are still there from this 1942 Aerial courtesy of the Toronto Archives.

There are some wonderful structures on the Donalda grounds. Walking down there is fantastic; it feels like you're in the country. Footbridge Rd., at the south west area of the golf course, is a really eerie pathway to walk along during the night. It's beautiful though, in the summer time when the path is enveloped in a cylinder of foliage and dimly glowing.

Crazy over-processed but way fun and terribly illustrative in its own hermetic universe. The white-hot halo enveloping the CN tower and the horizon line is nothing less than biblical. Well done.
