Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 (nCoV-2019)

for medical reasons, they can't drive; they are very afraid of dealing with the airports
Amtrak might be fun. Otherwise, don‘t fly to Toronto. Fly to Buffalo and have family cross for pickup.
I will be working from home at least a week. My wife can't work from home, but was still told not to come in.
My wife works for the TDSB. So it’s a three week paid vacation for her. She’ll put the kids to work on spring cleaning. They‘ll wish they were back at school soon enough.
BREAKING: OLG says it is temporarily shutting down all casinos across Ontario over COVID-19 concerns. "
That’s a safe bet.

Family who could do that is a chemo nurse. She would then have to self isolate for 2 weeks and be unavailable for work. They've thought of that, although they didn't think about the train. I'll suggest that.

So much for a traditional Irish St. Pat's Day: https://www.irishpost.com/news/government-orders-closure-pubs-bars-ireland-evening-march-29-181661

I still have to head in tomorrow, but I am definitely going to be avoiding the rush. Going WFH from that point on (I must be the rare 5% that hate WFH). Guess I can still pick up some cleaning supplies tomorrow before I hunker down.

4:33 p.m.: Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott has asked hospitals to begin ramping down elective surgeries as part of the province’s pandemic planning.
“Doing so will help preserve capacity to respond to COVID-19,” she tweeted from her personal Twitter account.

Illinois is closing bars and restaurants for dine-in https://wgntv.com/news/coronavirus/...stomers-in-illinois-due-to-covid-19-concerns/

Also from the article:
Earlier in the day Sunday, Pritzker criticized the federal response to the virus during an appearance on “Meet the Press,” after additional screening measures led to long, crowded lines at O’Hare Airport customs. He continued this criticism during his statements Sunday.
“My administration learned through Twitter about the unacceptable and frankly dangerous situation at O’Hare Airport,” Pritzker said. “When I saw hundreds of people crammed together for many hours at O’Hare in exactly the same conditions I have been warning about for days, I was furious.”

I wonder if the province will get ready to commandeer certain hotels, sterilize and prep them for use as emergency hospitals. In other news:

Garbage.

Bars sure..........

The dine-in at Restos, not so sure.

Most Restos aren't that crowded in; to the extent that some are; I could see capping capacity at 1/2 to address any concern.

The problem with making them take-out only is the crowding in the ensuring take-out line will likely be more dangerous than the dine-in ever would have.

Ontario is not currently considering a lockdown in response to COVID-19. The province continues to put in place enhanced measures to protect the health of all Ontarians. Businesses should continue to follow the advice of the Chief Medical Officer & check for updates.----

NEW: Dr. Kevin Smith, President & CEO at University Health Network, says he believes Ontario should close non-essential businesses (excl. pharmacies/groceries): "I know there will be some who say that's an overreaction. I would dramatically prefer overreacting to underreacting."

There is some new evidence out there the suggested amount of physical distancing isn't sufficient. Perhaps the solution is no in store wait for take-outs. The success of the current strategy of dulling the peak of the outbreak requires us to be overcautious.

I was at Wal-Mart and No Frills earlier which were both somewhat empty.

I do agree though that stores need to close. I am avoiding going into actual stores and ordering everything online whenever possible.

I now have the following at home after stocking today:

-96 Rolls of toilet paper

-5 litres of fabric softener

-11 Rolls of paper towel

-9 boxes of tissues

- 10 litres of laundry detergent

-3 Bottles of Shampoo/Conditoner

-3 bottles of body wash

-3 tubes of toothpaste

-3 bottles of face wash

The list goes on but my point is I am not waiting until the stores close to buy things. Our fridge is overflowing and so is our pantry.

This is the challenge...........I walked down to the Beach today, from north of Danforth to get a walk and some fresh air in..........

Decided I'd pick up a couple of odds n' ends at Valumart down there since I was out.............

The store, outside of produce had been ransacked.

Zero Pork, Zero Chicken, Zero Sausages, Zero Bacon, Zero Soups of any kind, snack food had also been raided deeply........(amusing note, Beachers clearly do not like Miss Vickies Jalapeno Chips or No Name Sour Cream ones; the only things left)

But I digress.

The lineup was long and closer together than I would have liked, people were polite and respectful......but with a line 1/2 down an aisle .............

I noted with interest they have 4 cashier positions in that store, only 2 were staffed, on a Sunday afternoon, seems like a poor choice. No one running traffic control duty; but someone selling FIDO...........

****

Bus from back from the Beach was rather full, not standee crowded, but busy.

Hold on, LOL......10L of laundry soap? Are you a father of 10?

That's a year's supply!

I don't think the threat is the stores will close - my concern is the need to limit visits - thus risk of exposure. That means the stores need to have items available when people visit.
