It would be political suicide for any politician regardless of party to stand by and do nothing while thousands of people get sick every day from a virus during a pandemic.

I can see members of his own party being under pressure to act decisively.

If it's seen as negatively affecting the economy, they will speak up. Otherwise, like our neighbours to the South, they'll push through till there is a vaccine to keep the economy moving.

A complete lockdown is inevitable, unless people make changes in their personal lives when they can: don't meet people from other households in an enclosed area, don't go to bars, restaurants and gyms, avoid public transit, etc.

I can't see banning visiting immediate family while gyms, bars and restaurants are allowed to operate indoor service. It's not a reasonable sacrifice to ask people to make while others are doing more discretionary activities.

Observation from the media numbers: Ontario completed high 20k tests today but there is a high 20k backlog of tests. That suggests the number of tests preformed IS our testing capacity. The 50k number is a fabrication

The setting seemed harmless: a birthday party at a home in Laval, just north of Montreal.

The guest list was limited to close family, which included aunts, uncles and cousins.

There was a cake, singing and, of course, blowing out the candles.

But lurking in the shadows of the celebration was something unexpected - the coronavirus.

One guest was already infected - but did not know it yet - and was spreading it.

By the time the party ended hours later, the virus had permeated the gathering. Of the 13 guests, six of the eight adults were infected and three of the five children.

The Provincial government has no interest in taking the fall for businesses shutting down, so their play is to pass the buck down to municipalities and blame them when a whole swath of businesses are forced to shutter.

Ironically, it's both the Ontario and Canadian governments who are both responsible for the mess that businesses are currently in due to their horribly targeted business relief programs. Instead of creating the programs to businesses directly, they've diddled around and created side programs to give free money to families with kids under a certain age range regardless of a family's income.

^Honestly, I just attended my nephew's birthday Saturday. A slightly smaller crowd. I heard Monday that his dad was getting tested for COVID because his coworker was just diagnosed. We were outside for most of the day owing to the beautiful weather, so fingers crossed.

Some of the lockdown rules are very stupid.

Schools are open and I can be in the mall with a 100 shoppers but I cant no longer visit my relative outside wearing a mask.

That's one rule I am breaking as frankly my mental health is at a breaking point and the risk is 0% and I know there will be zero enforcement of that rule anyways.

Stupid doctors and politicians pushing contradictory rules and regulations is just making people just threw up their hands in annoyance and just saying who cares.

I feel somewhat reassured now that the city has decided to act. The powers of the medical officer of health are very clearly stated in section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act. I agree with the Star's Bruce Arthur that the city's lawyers were probably too conservative in recommending against their use.

As someone pointed out it doesn't go far enough.

People are getting creative with tents in their parking lots for outdoor dining. Malls are still open along with most businesses.

Malls need to close and the tents need to be banned

At this point, I would be in favour of biting the bullet now and implementing a three-week complete lockdown, but it looks like it won't happen until the situation becomes totally disastrous.

A complete lockdown only for Toronto and Peel won't be sufficient - at a minimum it should be GTA wide. But given the profiles of courage provincially, fat chance of that happening - we'd rather be spending time talking about McDonald fries. And oh look:

I'm expecting 2000 daily cases next week. The exponential growth of cases is making it near impossible for contact tracers to keep up.

Think about it. 360~ cases in Toronto and on average lets say they each come into contact with 10 people. That's 3600 people a day that need to be called at a minimum.
