Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

September 6th addition.

The old menu below is from Barrie, Ontario. Not quite Toronto, forgive me. The building still exists in downtown Barrie; it's another restaurant now.

Broadview Avenue

I've been reminded of an excursion I made to Broadview Ave. 3 years ago.
I walked from Queen to Danforth and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and beauty of so many old homes and stores.
It's a fine old street!
I expect not much has changed - I'll have to explore again.

Toronto Island Airport

Toronto Island Airport - could any other name be better? I don't think so!

In this photo (1944) the amusement park on Hanlan's Point is still visible among the trees.

I like the one with the - pastor? - in front of the church...

Golly, they hadn't even planted those trees 80 years ago!

That's a nice canopy on the tree on the right - not many trees get to shade Queen street to such an extent.

I wonder if there are any remnants or foundations left. Nice aerial.

Canadian National Exhibition firehall. About 1913. Designed by G. W. Gouinlock, a very prolific architect.

Wow I love the lights in this pic! So Deco!

This reminds me. If anyone has any 'Then' CNE night time pics, please let's see them.

Could there be a stronger illustration of the decline of public sartorial standards than this pair of pics?

I was rueing the loss of CNE Landscaping standards in this pair.:(

September 9 addition.

Then: circa 1980. King and Berkeley, NE corner.

Joan Burt, head of OCA(D)'s Design Department when I was a student, renovated them in the late 1960s. She did Nienkamper's showroom, to the west, too.

edit: she did the row along the east side, but I don't know the date of the photo that shows the building at the corner prior to its transformation.

That would be King st east and Berkeley.

It's a shame that they hacked up the windows and doorways on the old place on the corner there. That happens quite a bit eh? What a nice patina it had as well before it was sided.
