This area is a very favorate spot of mine, along with The Music Garden around the corner. I documented this park in the Toronto Parks thread 3 or 4 years ago, but Photobucket did something wacky and broke the links to hundreds (maybe a thousand) of my photos on UT. Years of work gone, poof.
Is it now possible to get to Ireland Park? Last time I was there (3-4 months ago) access was blocked from Bathurst by the Porter excavations and from Queen's Quay because Bathurst Slip was still closed.
Haven't been down there in ages - I must get down if it's been re-opened. As someone from Ireland this park is a very sombre and poignant place especially on a dull cloudy day. I actually volunteered at the opening of the park back in 2007. Ireland's president Mary McAleese was over - there was also an Irish Navy warship (the Eithne) docked beside the park as well
I've been to the park twice but it was difficult to find. On both occasions people expressed their disappointment in the park but it opened dialogue. This park somehow lacks something with which to connect.

The access to the Park is still blocked. On the south/west side by the airport tunnel construction and on the north side because Waterfront Toronto have STILL not managed to get Bathurst Quay opened again. They are apparently waiting for some sort of provincial sign-off but it has taken FAR too long.
I have family friends from Dublin who wanted to see it a few years ago, but couldn't. They are back in Toronto in September and I'm wondering if again they won't be able to see it.
It was not accessible a couple of weeks ago but WT keep saying 'soon" so who knows... There is (or was) some legal reason why they cannot reopen Bathurst Quay and access from the west was blocked by the airport tunnel and dock work. In fact the City are about to do dock work on the south sider of the park so I suspect that (for a while) the only access will be from Bathurst Quay - when it reopens.
