Finch West Line 6 LRT

For those wondering how the LRT will connect to Finch West station, from this presentation:

The LRT box will be situated perpendicular to the subway box, underneath Finch Ave, above the subway-crossover structure.

The tunnel leading south seen from the photo at the knockout wall doesn't seem to be on these plans, but if it is, it seems to just lead out to the TTC services area, for the time being.

After having Keele/Finch torn up with construction for the past few years, it would be kinda sad to see the intersection another 3-4 more years of underground construction yet again.

I wonder what the exact staging on FWLRT construction will be. If the FWLRT had actually started construction at time, it likely would've been possible to construct FWLRT and TYSSE simultaneously, such that long term disruption at the surface would've been minimized. Of course, this would mean that the portal and underground structure would be the first component of FWLRT to be constructed.
 
Looking a bit earlier in this thread, extending the Finch LRT toward the airport would be most ideal running down Hwy 27 and west on Dixon.

I've been living in Malton for the past 20 years, and running an LRT down Derry/Airport would not benefit our neighborhood, not to mention municipal boundaries crossed, lack of ridership and development opportunity.

The LRT can run along the west side of Hwy 27 instead of down the middle, given the space along the corridor and how traffic tends to move through the corridor as opposed to be destined locally along it. Not much pedestrian traffic, most ridership might come from connections or keypoints along the way.

Queens plate:

Connections to the redeveloped Woodbine Shopping mall to the west, and Fortinos etc. retail on the east side.

Woodbine Racetrack:
To connect with the proposed redevelopment of this area as a Casino and mini village.

UPX Woodbine Station
Provide a changeover between TTC and UPX. With fare integration, that means going from the Woodbine/Humber /Rexdale area to downtown or vise versa is faster than Finch LRT to Finch West through TYSSE or the good old 191 Rocket. With Etobicoke and Malton GO stations nearby, this would not have a connection with GO transit.

Belfield
To connect with local industrial areas and cross-routes.

Dixon / Congress Center
To link the congress center and airport parking directly to the airport with an LRT. No need for a shuttle bus anymore.

Skyway, Carlingview, Jetliner
Revive Dixon road to become more pedestrian friendly, and open up the food services and hotels with very easy access to the airport. Again, no more need for private shuttle buses.


Just my two cents ;). I;ll check back in 25 years to see how much of this has been planned....much less funded.

I've never been a fan of plans to extend the FWLRT to the Airport, because the potential peak ridership appears to be very low (indeed, the projected ridership numbers were quite low in a City of Toronto study last year). However, what I would likely support is a BRT line connecting FWLRT to Kipling Station via Pearson Airport. This is inspired by the York University busway, and is quite similar in spirit to the Etobicoke RT proposal from the 1970s. Most of the BRT would be on existing roads, however some new infrastructure would need to be built. Namely, a busway would need to be constructed along the Hydro corridor north of Kipling Station (similar to the York University Busway) and structures would need to be built on the Airport lands to connect Dixon/Airport Road directly to the airport terminals. Depending on the exact design, there is potential for quick travel times between Finch and Bloor; I estimated around 25 mins when I first came up with this idea a few months ago.

yeah this busway would also benefit miway routes that normally use the 427 and dundas to get to islington, that is if line 2 doesn't go to cloverdale. there's also potential to use the rail corridor between milton and lakeshore west to extend the service to lakeshore (either eventual lrt conversion on the busway using the railroad to go south of bloor or rip out the tracks and build a brt row there) its a good idea considering how many buses use 427 north of dundas but the subway extension is better considering it benefits dundas brt and routes coming from the 427 south of dundas.

Not that I'm crazy about the value this line as proposed will bring, but can it be potentially extended to Finch station? Does the Finch West station allow an extension east?
 
^^^ Awesome! Will there be senior Metrolinx officials that we can ask questions? People who know the Finch West LRT project inside out?

Will there be detailed pictures displayed that I missed at the last community open house?

I stopped by that office last week and they had the renderings posted and they had a little card pamphlet with general info and pens available. The one person I talked to said they expect to start construction this spring.
