both D'ALLAIRDS and Virginia Dore/Dare (?) signage look to be beautiful examples of early-mid-century clean-lined scripts. the D'ALLAIRDS letters are mounted directly to the stone facade, while the Virginia Dore/Dare letters look to be mounted to a projecting base....
they are the only examples of moderne-modernist scripts visible in that shot--all the others are earlier styles, including many examples of the long lamented signs made from neon tubing.

One of the lost great houses of Old Toronto was "Ermeleigh" at the SE corner of Sherbourne and Wellesley, built by John Herbert Mason, one of the founders of Canada Permanent (http://www.biographi.ca/EN/009004-119.01-e.php?id_nbr=5753). Worthy of the Amberson Mansion in "The Magnificent Ambersons", Mr. Mason died there in 1911.

those are extraordinary shots of the interior. an astonishing amount of detail, almost certainly from 8"x10" glass negatives....
and they beautifully highlight the mad Victorian love of Bric-à-brac!

I wouldn't put too much faith in that article, though: it manages to misspell 'Warrington' and repeat the myth that Lifebuoy/Lever coined the term B.O. It's also possible that the Lifebuoy ad was there despite the absence of 'official' international distribution.

Wikipedia corrects the B.O. reference and qualifies Lifebouy's use of the term.
