A handful of additional supermarkets have been granted full wine/beer/cocktail licenses; some will not be effective until the end of November.
Longos Liberty Village
Davidson's Loblaws City Market at Yonge/Lawrence
Mike's Independent City Market on Peter Street
and not at all downtown......
But the Food Basics on Sandhurst Circle (Woodside Square Mall)

In general, so far, it looks to me like Metro will roll out booze sales to all of their properties (Metro and Food Basics) where space permits.
Longos appears to be going chain-wide for the full line stores, but will also do the mini-store in Brookfield Place.
Sobeys will see sales at all full-line stores, and some urban fresh locations.
Loblaws will have sales at most/all Loblaws branded outlets, but so far rollout to No Frills seems very light. But, the No Frills at Dufferin Mall has a license.
Independents: A1 Premium and Bestco have picked up licenses.
Walmart is going fairly wide and has 3 stores in Scarborough w/licenses, but does not appear to have obtained one for Gerrard Square or Dufferin Mall.
No sign of any licenses for Whole Foods

The No Frills at Lansdowne and Dundas has had beer and wine for years. Surprised there's nothing for Walfart at Dufferin Mall given the demographics...

Maybe they think it's not necessary as a draw given there's already an LCBO and Beer Store in the mall? They won't be making much money off of sales, so it probably only makes sense for those big stores as a way to get people into the store to spend money on other stuff.

Nothing is going to convince the old Portuguese guys in the area to change their booze buying habits from the Beer Store to Walfart!

Didn't Loblaws stop selling alcohol at a bunch of its stores not too long ago? Like the one near Bathurst and Queen. And I think the FreshCo on Bathurst north of Dundas also stopped selling alcohol.

Do you think them getting a license means they will actually start selling alcohol at all licensed stores? Does the new licensing allow them to charge more than the LCBO, like convinience stores? I guess if that's the case it makes sense for them to bring alcohol sales back, with higher prices to make up for previously low margins and theft.

Another new mini-No Frills is coming..........this one to Mt. Pleasant and Eglinton in a former Shopper's Drug Mart:

They have their permits, but hadn't started fit out as of 2 weeks ago.
So not sure.
I think Esplande is due up next, and Shuter will follow, but don't hold me to that.
@Bibi L should be keeping an eye on that location.

Church and Esplanade NoFrills is supposed to open in mid/late December as per a contractor on site a few weeks ago.
Sheetmetal going in now, shelves and coolers are on site.
Selfie stick reaching above the paper window covering late Saturday and go figure, people were working in there.

That sounds about right, by look, it's about 4 weeks for physical fit-out, then you have some training on site, plus stock up, that's about 3-4 days, so that's second week of December or so .

The market here is growing rapidly, that Metro does very good numbers, I don't think it will phase them any.

I realize now, if they had any concern, they would have beaten No Frills to the punch by placing a Basics there when the chance came to be...
