Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

The part of me who plays Cities Skylines is worried that this is going to be a massive pinch point for busses getting off the busway at Lawrence (it's only wide enough for one bus at the moment).

If they're going to build it, they might as well build the entire thing, they're going to have to pave about 80 metres of asphalt either way.

Just layout the route at Lawrence the same way as planned at Ellesmere, no pinch point. And if they want to keep with the plan to have northbound buses using Kennedy, there won't be any overlap between each direction.

So what exactly are they doing at the Midland and Eglinton intersection, I thought they were making the TBM exit pit, but it looks like they're shifting the road, is that gonna be a new permanent road configurations?

I believe they are shifting the road for the access point. The current roadway is in the middle of everything.

Steve is right, SRT is done! City has budgeting issues, time for Doug Ford to step up for the people of Scarborough. Let’s get this simple busway going asap.
People in Scarborough always asking the Fords for help. How about some more taxes from the one tax payer.

Typical conservative nonsense.

Scarborough is far more working class and far less wealthy than all the other community councils of Toronto. This is no different from:

1) Be rich
2) Don't be not rich

That is how Scarborough was built it. It is located the furthest away from the core cause people couldn't afford to live closer to the city. Unless it's near the shorelines, it is pretty much how it is. Transit will always be the hardest to build there and one subway isn't going to help a lot. They really need a better transit "network" meaning more than one line. Express buses/LRT and better transit priority to improve their reliability. Until someone pushed, nothing will happen. Let's see if the Eglinton East LRT gets moving soon with Chow in place.

The temporary bus lanes might not be the best investment. They are probably better off spending money on queue lanes across Scarborough and improving reliability to get people where they need to go. Best if they can do both.

Ford government most likely to fund busway once TTC makes RT closure official. Partially Decommissioning the SRT is a sunk cost and shouldn’t be counted in on the cost of the busway. No frill busway needs to be built quickly using existing RT concrete base. Convert the busway into community friendly corridor with bike lanes once subway finished.

Word around the water cooler is Test Trains are to go out starting Monday along the SRT route.

Wouldn’t bet on it. What’s the political upside for them? If they wanted to make an impression in Scarborough (as a whole) they would have made noises about this in the recent byelection - and they didn’t.

They should end all work on SRT and say it is gone for good. No point wasting time and money investigating what happened or how to bring it back to service, if it is going to be decomissioned in 3 months anyway.

And then, build the busway ASAP. We are definitely not at the highest demand point these days, the effect of summer vacations, plus many covid-time WFH arrangements are still in place. The demand will be growing. It will take at least 8 years, and likely 10+ years, to get the subway running to STC and Sheppard. We need a fast and reliable bus channel in the interim, not just rely on mixed-traffic buses.

At the very least, the busway will cut the annual bus operating expenses. When the buses turn around faster, fewer buses are needed to maintain the same service frequency and carry the same number of riders.
