Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

First item up for consideration today.......

For those of you that live/work near Sheppard Ave. E from Willowdale to Leslie; the complete street plan is getting its final round of consultation.

Drop-in on the 28th of this month; online survey for your input.

All going well, this will go to I&E ctte and Council for approval in June of this year.
 
Ok, time for all the cyclists here to lose their @#$# (rightly so).

The Provincial government just blocked the Humber Gap bike trail project, requiring it to through a higher level of Environmental Assessment.

Consultation for the Bloor West Complete Street extension is next month, April 12/13.

This will go forward if the public comes out clearly in favour (Local BIA is supportive here, which helps).

This will take the Cycle tracks to just west of Royal York this year, and on past Islington next year to the existing bike lanes at Six Points:

Survey link isn't public yet, but will go public shortly.

The roll plans are up, they don't actually show the Cycle Track clearly (its there), but they show bus stops and geometric changes, including one notable intersection treatment.

The report initiating the process for extending the College cycle tracks has passed Council 23-1.

No points for guessing the 1.

Note this is not final approval, but a direction to staff to put this project on the to-do list. Which it will be. I feel reasonably confident it will be approved when the time comes, but that's a bit away yet.

The interesting thing about this render is that there is now a very frequent speed trap on Bloor Eastbound, usually right where the car can be seen parked on the sidestreet.

It's a bit of a "fishing hole" in that the existing street geometry is so wide open (and was probably designed for 60) that it's pretty much fishing in a barrel for speeders - almost too easy pickings, because the geometry is such an override to better judgement.

One hopes that the change in street geometry to 2 lanes from 4 might help that somewhat, but even more dramatic changes would sure help.

This project will make a big difference out west of the Humber.

Should some future TTC route improvements occur in the (far) future with the re-introduction of the 138 SOUTH KINGSWAY bus, it may operate better if we could use a dedicate left turn bus signal from the right through lane for buses only.

Would need the use of real transit signal lights, of course. Not just the current vertical transit signal we use (rarely).
