The bump-outs on the side streets (Berkeley, Princess, George) look great, though it appears they may be postponing some of the finishing work for next year (the bump-out on the north side of Front & Berkeley was simply filled in with asphalt).

I'm guessing they are leaving it beacuse of the construction of the new Globe and Mail Building

Your guess is correct. Only the basic bump-out was installed on NW side of Berkeley and it will be properly finished off, by First Gulf, when the G & M building is finished. The other bump-outs are still not complete. The low walls will be clad in stone, soon. The pedestrian lights are being installed on south side and as soon as they work they will remove the remaining tall ones on the north side of Front and pedestrian lights will go there too. It is all supposed to be fixed by November 30.

Not sure which City maps you are referring to but the St Lawrence BIA and the St Lawrence Neighbourhood Assn - www.slna.ca - go east to Parliament. The Corktown Residents and Business Association - http://corktown.ca/about/ - goes to Berkeley. (The block between Berkeley and Parliament is in both areas - and it seems to work fine.)

UPDATE: I've done a cursory search of the city's site and can't find the map that I was referring to, so perhaps you are right (or it has changed).

There are no official Corktown boundaries. The Wikipedia map is as reliable as anything else - it's an interpretation. There are many reasons why the boundary of a BIA is sometimes different than the boundary of a ratepayers association, which is often different again from the neighbourhood designations the City uses for social services, which can be different again from the boundaries the locals use, etc. etc. The boundaries of Corktown are strictly a matter of opinion and convention, and presumably will evolve over time.

I don't quite share the negativity. It's certainly a risk, but the corner will eventually change and with all the condos immediately south, perhaps now is the time to start reflecting that.

Yeah, it's coming along, but i don't picture people wanting to come out to that intersection half cut at midnight on a Saturday. I hope I'm wrong, but I live right by there, and while I'll try the place, it's just not an intersection I want to spend time at late at night. We'll see.

New restaurant in this space - called Atelier Bistro Lounge or something similar

An eviction notice is up at Bentley Flanders at King/St. Lawrence, citing over $100,000 in unpaid rent. Too bad -- though it never seemed very busy.

Certainly it did not last long and I never actually saw ANY customers inside or any ads for it. It actually did not look very 'customer-friendly' from the street. The "furniture district" really ends a bit further west of them and until the full River City and WDL developments bring in more residents I doubt such a specialised place could survive there. (Certainly not without some advertising.)
